This only happens to me when I try to tame Deep Lizards, but every now and then nothing happens when I attempt to use "animal empathy" on them.
I am definitely visible to them (indeed, they are usually charging,) I click on my quickbar icon to get the "targeting" cursor, I click on the deep lizard, the targeting cursor goes away, and nothing happens. No messages whatsoever.
Today, I experimented with it more than half a dozen times on a deep lizard, and 50% of the time this happened.
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the sheer size of the avatar. I don't seem to have this problem with other animal types.

They are a pain-in-the-ass to dominate. I think the "range" of AE forces you to run right into it's mouth, and you end up accidentally attacking, thereby ruining your AE attempt.
There are ways around it, but it would be nice to see this fixed.

I don't think it's possible to fix this, if it's being caused by the model and the way the engine handles AE.

OK... it's better to know this info, than to continue to attempt taming Deep Lizards. I lucked out twice yesterday when troubleshooting the issue, being knocked to negatives and "stabilizing" to recovery both times.
I think the "right-in-the-creature's-mouth" theory fits well, as both times I had no problems taming it the moment my character came out of negatives. (Whereupon the lizard was of course right on top of me.)

I think this has more to do with the fact that you are only allowed to attempt AE so often. You can try to use AE, fail, and then try again right away and it will inform you that you must wait x seconds before trying again.
I dominate Deep Lizards a lot. Never had any problems except for the one I just listed, and it's just the mechanics and how it's supposed to work :D
