Letter addressed to the Council

Delivered to Herald Jafar.

"Councilmen of Sanctuary,

I write to you as a exile. It appears the Spellguard has exiled me from this city and demanded my arrest if I return. I have not, to my knowledge, committed any crime. I have not, to my knowledge, been accussed of a crime.

What I do know is that a rumor that I, a slave that suffered four decades of torture and abuse at the hands of the illithids, have now been accussed of being their servant and seeking to lure unhallowed clutches of a the most terrible foe Dunwarren faces.

I seek to regain lawful entry to Dunwarren to conduct my research into its history, and my own holy obligation to seek and spread the message of escape from this Underdark that is our trap. If it will require a trial to prove my hatred of the illithid, I shall do so; but I want an honest hearing and I wish to learn what my fate will be if the Council does not believe me when I say that of all the forces on Toril I may ever ally myself to--the illithid race is the very last.

Mandarin Dreagle"

Several Councilmembers have an extra package included in a seperate brief letter or package, each asks for a seperate reply sent to the Blue Mushroom Inn.

Bhast "Councilman Bhast, you may recall that I personally helped you several times in covering up certain secrets of this city's history that are unsafe for general knowledge. I would never betray your trust, and in this delicate time before the elections let it be known what secrets you've hidden and covered up. As I have done all I can to aid Dunwarren in the past, I hope for your well wishes."

Colvin "Councilwoman Colvin, as you are aware, I was present during the murder of Councilman Paxtor. I saw the crime take place in an establishment that you owened. I am the sole surviving witness of the crimes that took place before and after Paxtor's death. I've kept this information very quiet, but it is an election year now and I understand how damaging it if word leaked that Paxtor's murder in your establishment and his own sexual perversions made a mockery of this city's laws while removing a political enemy of your own. All I ask for my continued silencing of these atrocious rumors is your sincere consideration and understanding of my own situation."

Tyrell's package includes Mandarin's current book on Dunwarren. "Councilwoman Tyrell, I hold nothing but respect for you and your research. I wish to gain knowledge, and I fear that my true crime--the one that truly angered the Spellguard is that I shared knowledge and theories that they fear undermined their image while leading an expedition to uncover the threat of a nearby illithid that the threat to our safety could be eliminated. In seeking to uncover some of the secrets of this city's heritage, I made an enemy of the Spellguard by sharing information on several rumors (all quite unproven at this point) that show the Spellguard occasionally in a very bad light. As a fellow scholar, I ask for your patronage and protection so I can continue my own research."

Mr. Dreagle,

After consultation with representatives of the Spellguard and Watch, it was determined that you have not been sentenced to exile. The Agent of the Spellguard who spoke with you was simply warning you that if found within Sanctuary again, you will be brought to trial for the crime of endangering Sanctuary.

As with all citizens of Sanctuary, it is your right and privilege to defend yourself during a trial. If you wish to do so, you may simply present yourself to a member of the Watch or Spellguard.

Office of the Herald

((Just a bump to remind about the seperate letters to different councilmembers. I hope to go for the trial Mon/Tues so I can die/be found innocent and then try running for council and want to know if one particular councilmember seems more favorably inclined toward cooperation for mutual survival.))

A quick note from Bhast's personal assistant:

Mr. Dreagle,

Councillor Bhast was puzzled by some of the references you made in your note to him, but he wishes you well and sincerely hopes that you hand yourself over for judgement soon so that you'll have an opportunity to prove your innocence.

Colivin responds:

Mr. Dreagle,

Paxtor's death was lamentable, but if you're suggesting it's some kind of secret that I run a brothel then I'm not quite sure what to think. I do not appreciate thinly veiled blackmail, even in matters in which there would be no substance to any accusations.

Victoria Colivin

Adelia responds:

Mr. Dreagle,

Thank you for including your work. I will read it with interest. The crimes you're being accused of are very serious, but you may be certain that Sanctuary shall always support its true scholars so long as I remain a member of the council. Those who seek to warp or disguise the truth shall have no sympathy from me.
