[A letter to Herald Jefar]

Good Herald,

In my campaigning efforts I'm often faced with questions concerning taxes, but I actually lack distinct knowledge of them, and of funds going towards the various organisation. As such, I'm forced to give out vague answers which I simply feel aren't fitting for men whom would support me.

As such, I write to you concerning this information.

How much are the taxes, how often are they paid, what are the various conditions or circumstances that affect taxes?

How much in funds are typically available for distribution for the various organisations of Sanctuary? Is each organisation simply given a share to do with as they wish? Or do they approach the Council with their proposal and the amount of coin required?

This and more I feel I must know, and I would be in your debt.

Ivandur Reynolt

An elderly gnomish courier in a drab suit locates Ivandur when he next passes through Upper Sanctuary and passes him a note sealed with the mark of the Office of the Herald. Inside are a few scattered pie crumbs, and a letter which reads...

Ivandur Reynolt,

You should be hearing shortly from the Office of the Treasurer about the specifics of our present tax rates. I'd recommend getting a copy of the standard Gripp's Guide to Sanctuary Tax Law and flipping through it if you're interested in the subject -- my own knowledge on the intricacies of taxaction is woefully limited. Broadly, the majority of the income of the government of Sanctuary is in the form of taxes, particularly those on incomes and landed property.

Again, Gripp's Guide goes into more detail, but broadly the majority of the tax money goes toward the Civil Defense Budget, which allocates gold to the four major groups involved in Sanctuary's civil defense: the Watch, the Spellguard, the Seekers, and the Tigereye Mercenary Company. Specifics on the current allocation will be forwarded to you shortly from the Office of the Treasurer.
