[A letter sent to the Council ((DM))]

Nightal 6th 1373 DR.

Recent events have been harsh on Sanctuary, and with the rebellion silenced for the time being, I think it is now appropriate to inform the Council of rather dire circumstances involving the Mausoleum.

Two darks ago, Myself, along with two others, ventured into the Mausoleum. One being in the service of Torm, the other a servant of Helm. Their names being Elmuthalleth Anver and Leopold Dominique. The reason behind our venture was due to several so called “Lights” running rampant throughout the lower crypts. While this was entirely our main concern, one couldn't help but notice the deplorable conditions of the Mausoleum. Bodies were strewn about carelessly, Tombs were inefficiently cared for, and the Caretaker had the look of a broken and exhausted man.

After discussions were had between the party and I, all made their way into the lower crypts. Within a heartbeat we were beset by spirits that were rife with negative energy and hostile intent. After a series of engagements against these restless spirits, we came upon some form of summoning circle. This left little doubt that a rift had opened to the Plane of Negative Energy. After steady combat with a few denizens of the Negative Energy plane, the portal was eventually closed, due to the divine blessings of Oghma. With the portal subsided for at least some time, we made our way upwards to have words with the so called Caretaker. He informed the gathered that the Mausoleum was entirely in the Councils care, and that he himself has done as best as he can.

The nature of this letter is to inform the Council that the Mausoleum is in dire need of aid and volunteers, even more so due to the recent conflicts in lower. The lingering of the dead is both disrespectful and insanely dangerous to an already battered community. The careless disregard of the material body tampers with the soul. While the actual rotting of the dead welcomes all forms of pestilence and disease. I pray that action will be taken, for I fear that tragic situations may arise from neglect.

In good faith.
