When in the wilds of the underdark I seem to occasionally get a spot bonus. I can never duplicate why I get the bonus. It doesn't always come when I go into the wilds. And that may not even be why it's happening. I never have any buffs which increase my spot. I guess I'm not giving very much information here. Oh well.
Unaccounted for +4 spot
Some areas have spot/listen modifiers. Could that be causing it?
Ah. I was never aware that areas gave spot/listen modifiers. Could be it...in the underdark I seem to almost always have +4 spot for some reason or another.
I thought maybe it was cause I was in a party of elves, you know, back to oldschool 2e rules, all elf parties get surprise rounds....ah you're all too young to know abou that *grumbles*
I think druids or ranger get some sort of bonus in wilderness areas, also. I don't remember exactly what the details are.
Rangers receive a +4 spot/listen/search bonus if they have 5 ranger levels and are in a wilderness area. The bug in this case must be that this isn't documented, I guess, but it is deliberate.
Ah! Yes, I thought maybe I was getting a bonus because of being ranger, but I didn't see anything like that on the website/forums so I assumed it was a bug.
Thanks Howland.
Looks like this isn't actually a bug.
