Is it possible to increase the distance you can hear a whisper from with points in listen. Probably compliacted as hell, but I figured I'd ask.
The rest of this suggestion is actually for other PC's. A lot of whispering happens directly in front of people. If you want to hear what people are whispering about, roll a listen check and let them know your result. Checks should not be limited to dm and scripted action. At least that is what I think, feel free to disagree.

I'm almost positive that this is impossible to do.

slash whisper (/w) is completely hard coded where you can't actually do anything about it. This just can't be done Panama, cant increase or decrease it's distance. It works to most ends, you just have to live with it.

I've always really loved the idea of using am Amplify spell or potion to listen into convos. If you then ask the players involved to take screens of the convo and send them to you so you know exactly what's said, that works.

That can't be enforced, and since it only benefits players who want to tell you things, and those who want to take part, then that is completely pointless to the rest of us.

I've thought of this idea before and loved it, but was sad when I learned the mechanics of /w. My only idea has been that an amplify spell could instead target an individual character. When it goes off, a completely invisible, undectable listener object is attached to the targeted PC in follow mode. Any words that are said could be sent as a tell to the player that casted it. A very high listen could also unlock this ability "Tune in" or something, where you concentrate listening on one specific person. If you treat it like a spell, it can have a certain range, so the range effect could increase with listen points.

I figured it was impossible.
However, I still think that PC's should make listen checks and let people know the results. Last night, for example, I was whispering and asked someone to make a check at what I considered a reasonable DC. When the check came up just short of the DC, I gave a few words of the conversation through a tell, but not the whole thing.
It can't be enforced, but I thinking it is something that really adds RP value, as long as people are mature about it. The same can be said for bluff checks, appraise checks and so forth.

On the point for strife, individual listeners are bloody awful things for using in nwn, they are highly buggey and should be used sparingly, if not at all.
