*letter to Guardian Smythe of House Archibald*

*awaits at the Last Stand Inn*

Guardian Smythe,

The Tribe has done that which you have asked, and can quote you price. I wish to meet you for the payment and to arrange an expedition to purchase these things and transport them for you

Andrei of the Tribe of the Blade, Eighth Rank

*sloppy writing on quality parchment with spittle marks here and there*

As discussed previously, cost must be considered before any expedition is approved. If the price is too high, I will not have authorization to hand over any coin to you.

You had mentioned an initial fee. The entire cost would have to be considered. I was told that it would be best for you to send me the quote and any conditions. The intention is to purchase products. I would not be in a position to provide any fees not discussed in the beginning. Since you have traveled the Underdark for some time, you should have all of the variables considered.

I do thank you for your consideration. I also would like to state that it please me to hear that your group has been able to work out a deal with the City so that you are able to stay.

In any event that your tribe works against the city, rest assured that we will not stand for it, and most likely you wouldn't be able to stand at all, anymore.

Guardian Zebulon Smythe

Guardian,

I do not understand your words to me. The Tribe of the Blade has risked its warriors lives merely to travel to this island and find the prices you have requested. This was negotiated in our initial meeting, and you agreed on the costs at that time. The price for this journey was only five hundred coin, and you also agreed to pay any costs for a ferry, which were anohter hundred fifty coin. Of course, we will pay for the use of any supplies or magic items for our warriors to fight their way through the many fearsome beasts on this journey.

This is what we negotiated, yes? I would like to arrange a meeting with you to receive this six hundred and fifty coin, and to negotiate the cost of obtaining and transporting this large shipment that you have requested.

I look forward to your response, and the pleasure of dealing with a man of honor like you Guardian Zebulon Smythe.

I asked for a price. I made it clear that I would need to know cost before I take any action. Are you telling me it costs 650 coin just to determine a price.

I cannot commit to any purchase without knowing a price. Do you think I am stupid? What if you come this dark and tell me it costs 10,000 or 100,000 coin and I should blindly pay. Do you think I would be stupid enough to agree to something without knowing the price?

I told you if you did not know, you could possibly ask around. You stated a possible estimate and would get back to me with a full price. You come to me with your hand in my pocket. I have never dealt with a merchant such as you. Perhaps your ways are different then most, but I must say that few would agree to pay you coin just to lern what something will cost.

You still have not told me how much it would cost.

I never agreed to pay you to take a trip to discover a cost. You now intend to charge me for the trip, only to charge me again to go there to make a purchase.

You make no sense. You only ask for gold for something I never asked you to do. I suppose you now will ask me for gold just to have a meeting.

You had best restate your position to me as you are not making a very good impression.

Guardian Smythe,

Perhaps I misunderstod you then sir. You requested that we find the cost of these items, and I named a fee to make this journey, which you agreed to, no? This is not a thing which one can go to the bazaar to find its cost. It is a rare and difficult item to find, requiring danger and cost to do so.

There are two products which can help you. The more potent are a type of root, the other a package of berries. The former lasts nearly three times longer, but are more expensive.

The cost for the more expensive root for fifteen of these, including our costs will be 3,550 coin. Eighteen roots will be 4000. The cost for fifteen of the berries will be 1600 coin. Eighteen will be 1800. Both costs are the total payment including ferry payments and costs incurred during the trip by the Tribe.

I hope that we can conclude this contract, and that we can help you find that which you seek

Honor to you and your house, Andrei of the Tribe of the Blade

*message left with Croaka for Andrei*

Andrei,

I went down to visit you at your camp, but you were not available. It appears that Croaka had acquired what I needed. I have made my purchase.

Our business is complete.

Thank you. Guardian Zebulon Smythe

Guardian Smythe,

Croaka has grown berries to meet the local need. I am glad that you have been able to use these to satisfy your demand for that product.

Yet the portion of the contrat for traveling to the island of the fish men has not been satisfied.

You are a man of your word, yes? What is this small amount of coin compared to your honor as a merchant? I would be honored if we might meet to complete this contract.

Andrei,

First you charge me for something I told you not to do. You have a product and need not go anywhere for it. Now you try to talk to me about honor. There would have been honor in selling me the product you had in the first place.

Also, I am no merchant, just a simple soldier.

There is nothing to discuss. You words are pretty and fancy, but your purpose is to steal and trick folk into overpaying you.

I intend to warn everyone to be wary of your tribe of thieves. You may not steal outright, but by trickery. We were hoping that your Merchant Tribe would be a benefit to the city, but now I do believe that the previous sheriff was right about your Tribe.

I have been ordered not to discuss this with you any further. You have been hereby informed that my request for funds for product and quote has been denied.

No one of the Guard shall make any deals with the Tribe of the Blade.

You are not welcome at the Estate. You are not welcome in Sanctuary. I am now curious as to why you had to leave your last location. Perhaps it was to escape from your wrongdoings.

Guardian Zebulin Smythe

// right, trying to find you IG, but all I do recently is fugue instead. It is my new hobby.

Trader of Lies,

You requested that we find prices at the island of fishmen for the wares you seek. I told you that there would be cost to make this dangerous journey to find your prices and options. You agreed to fund this, or you have no understanding of your own words. You thought we would make this trip for free? You said nothing of asking around, and any merchant worth his salt would find these prices themselves.

Five hundred coin and the ferry fees were agreed upon. The cost for purchasing and supplying these things would be negotiated after their price was known, or even whether you would buy them at these prices. Now you seek to cheat the tribe of contract.

As I stated, weeks after our meeting, Mother Croaka harvested a crop of the berries. Yet the lungroot which provided longer effects we did not have. You had asked that we find the cost of these two products and this we have done, at danger and expense to our people.

It is obvious that you are no merchant. You lack the skill to make simple agreement by words. I asked if you were able to negotiate for your House, and you said that you were. It now seems that this is beyond you.

You entered into verbal contract and are now going back on your word. You seek to threaten me, but all you have are lies and your own confused ramblings.

I will be informing Councilor Frum who is my business partner of your ill ways and baseless lies. All who trade in this town will know that you promise one thing, then do another.

The honor of your House is sullied by your foolishness, and the one hundred fifty warriors of our Tribe scoffs at the petty threats of one lying man such as yourself. If their are other men of your house, I would see them and speak with them as you are proven not worthy of cleaning the boots of a man with honor.

You, and only you of your House are not welcome in our Camp, and none of the Tribe will speak to you nor will they trade wares. You have no power to bar any of us from Sanctuary; these words are as piss into the wind.

Andrei of the Blade of the Tribe Eighth Rank

Andrei,

I am having great trouble following your points. I do not understand you at all.

You state that you cannot know a price of a product but you had it before you left on your expedition. Please explain. No actually, that would most likely confuse me more and cost me more coin.

Adrien wrote:

Coin is not important here, working with honorable people who do not use words to confuse me. You state that I should have honor as a merchant. I am so utterly confused.

Adrien wrote:

OK, upon reading your last letter you have come to the correct conclusion that I am indeed not a merchant. I am glad that this is clear. I usually give any extra things away or trade.

I have been here in sanctuary for some time and have not had any previous issues with purchasing items and trading, or having my honor attacked. It is you who need to prove your honor, not I.

I tire of your words, they hurt my head.

//hope to meet soon, this would be more fun IG.
