Makers of the Times, [Or to the individual mentioned]
You have a newspaper that might be able to present the truth about our people. I have seen a copy of the one called the Sentinel, and it seems to be written by Sheriff Fawkes. Some words are the same as a letter which he has sent to us. I will include a copy of this letter as the original has bloodstains on it due to the gruesome means that Sheriff Fawkes used to deliver it to our home.
We wish for you to come to our Camp, sit at our fire, and gain a true account of the events which this man has twisted to serve his own grasp for power.
Sheriff Fawkes spoke with me at our camp, and we entered the initial negotiation for the Tribe to help guard the gate. His initial proposal was rejected by the Tribal Elders, so I sent him this response:
Uktar 23 Sheriff Fawkes,I have discussed the proposal that you have made for our Tribe with one of the highest rank. It is not acceptable for that we would be incorporated into Sanctuary's defense organizations. We are a people of our word, and our first priority would ever be to our Tribe. This means that we can not be deputized as you say and beholden to this town.
Further, we have come here because we are somewhat depleted of monies, and no contract to defend your gate will be made without payment. We are a proud and honorable people, but coin is needed for us to purchase and produce the wares that we offer.
I hope that I did not mislead you about these things, as that was not my intention. But I am merely the voice of our leaders, and these are their wishes that I now know.
The person that you wished to see might indeed be willing to see you, but prophecy is a difficult and sometimes dangerous thing. It will take coin for this to happen as well, but what is gold compared to the answers that you seek?
I would be willing to speak with you if you wish. You are an honorable man, and worth the respect of our Tribe. This would be an honor for me to speak with you once more.
May Savras grant you the knowledge you seek.

Here is a copy of the next letter sent to Sheriff Fawkes, and also his reply to our Tribe before the Orog attack:
Uktar 27 Sheriff Fawkes,I have had the misfortune to not be able to locate you. This is good, because it means that you are a man of action, and not sitting at a cursed desk having others do your work. The people of the Tribe understands this of a leader.
There are some things to relay to you. We see that you have posted a group of guards to the Gate we spoke about. The offer still stands however for the Tribe to help strengthen your forces at this location for fair compensation. We might assign several of our guards to man this gate, and can also offer the forces of the Clan to assist in any large assaults that might require more manpower.
Here is his response. As you can see, it does not have the hostile and accusing tone that he chose to take after we informed him that we would not promise to guard this gate for free. Why does he expect people to do the job for no pay that his Watchman are well paid to do?
Uktar 27 Andrei, our city has a poor history with mercenaries contracted to defend our gates. As long as I am sheriff of Sanctuary there will never again be mercenaries defending us on a regular basis. I'll seal the gates before I allow for that and leave nothing but a solid wall. Only citizens sworn to defend Sanctuary will be its guardians.Otherwise, thank you for the rest of your information.
Sheriff Fawkes
We initially offered to hire on as mercenaries to guard the undefended gate. His response was merely to offer our tribe citizenship to deputize those not allowed in your city by the non-human laws, and for the tribe to swear loyalty to this town.
This was not acceptable to our leaders. We wished only fair compensation, and our intial request would have been for each man to be paid what his own guards were paid. Once guards were posted, we still extended an offer to enter into a contract to help defend the gate from attack. However as you can see from his letter, he had no interest in paying us anything.
One thing you people do not understand is that the Tribe would have signed a contract for a single gold coin had it been negotiated as such. The honor of entering into formal contract to do such a thing was far more important than the coin to us. Yet Sheriff Fawkes would not even consider any payment, nor would he negotiate further.
When the orogs attacked, I left our camp and was struck in the leg with a crippling shot from an orog arrow. Many others flew about me as I limped up the ramp and through the Canal Gate. The traitor Kathazar stood at the gate, and urged me to run for help, and find a Councilor to make contract so that we could formally be recognized to help defend this gate. I did so, sorely injured but knowing the need was dire and consuming a potion to heal this wound, sprinted and made a sending for a Councilor or the Sheriff.
When I saw the Sheriff and asked him if he knew the orogs were attacking, he waved dismissively and said, "Apparently" as he slowly walked by. Then I asked him to make verbal contract right there to allow the Tribe the honor to fight the orogs. His face contorted into a mask of evil like that of a Lord of the Pits, and without warning he struck me savagely with the pommel of a sword directly in my face.
The blow nearly knocked me senseless, and he screamed at me in a rage, calling me a cur and telling me that if I set foot in Sanctuary that he would kill me.
There is another matter I will address in a separate scroll.
