Ickerous' speech on his plans for the economy and trade

In the Town Hall, Ickerous Prideaux, standing by the speaking platform, gulps down a mug filled with silvery liquid and proceeds to speak in a clear, audible, well-paced voice that easily carries across the great hall

Beloved citizens! So far you have heard me give voice to what I consider the most important and concerning issues that face our town, but I have said little in regards to our circuitous and tenuous economy.

Our economy is fundamentally based upon adventurers and providing goods and services for these daring few. They raid minor settlements and bring back wealth that then passes hands directly to the Council through taxation or indirectly when they spend their acquired wealth on the goods and services offered by citizens whose careers are based solely on catering for our raiders, who then proceed to pay tax to the Council. Ickerous inhales This is a good thing? Not exactly. No matter how much gold goes to the Council, it is of little use if we do not trade, as we only have a limited amount of resources at our disposal that gold does not alter. With the wealth flooding into our economy, we have little way to vent it out to provide ourselves with extra resources as our trading partners are few, if any.

I believe if we do not act soon, we shall suffer a period of great inflation that shall make the poor suffer more than they already do, until we find partners like the Grunstubble clan to trade with us. That is not to say that we will allow them to have such a substantial hold on our wealth and ecnomy as they did last time, as I plan to put to law that no external entity may offer financial services in Sanctuary. Already I am actively seeking out trading partners for our settlement, yet I fear none will deal with us so long as our "Monstrous and slaver races" laws are in effect. Indeed, it shall be sometime before I can fix the bungle that has occured due to the actions of previous Councils, but if I am elected I, Ickerous Anthony Odesseron Prideaux, shall do my utmost to make our home a more safe and prosperous town.

The course is clear, you have but only to make the right decision, my friends. Thank you for your time Ickerous inclines his head once to those gathered in front of him and departs the Town Hall
