Ickerous drinks a silvery liquid held in a bottle before speaking in a clear, upright tone after looking around the hall once Beloved citizens! The horrors of the recent goblin attacks were a travesty, and I am truly sorrowed at what has transpired. Those responsible will suffer just retribution for their crimes, so long as I am alive to see it through, regardless of whether I am elected or not. The loss of life has saddened me greatly, yet it is nothing new.
Throughout Sanctuary's history we have suffered minor raids, but recently these raids have taken a far more viscious and sinister tone. We are a survivalist community faced with enemies on all sides, what we would never have associated with on the surface we must now endure so we may live. For little over one hundred and fifty years we have tolerated the "monstrous" races in our community, and for little over one hundred and fifty years it worked, Sanctuary survived and flourished, even though some of its denizens would have been slaughtered on the spot if we were on the surface and did not need them.
Ickerous wets his lips before continuing, speaking loud and clear But we do need them here, we need them to stand with us against the greater threat of the unknown Underdark that is filled with Drow, Illithid and Eye tyrants that will gladly enslave humans, orcs and what have you with little preference. For one hundred and fifty years, the "monstrous" races stood with us in the interests of their own survival, but... but now, now we have cast the monsters out, and as expected, they have turned against -us- in the interests of their own survival. We have turned their interests of a safe and secure Sanctuary around completely, so they now work to undermine it. Abolishment of the unviable laws is not bending over backwards for the "monsters", as some would say, but a conscientious decision to stand a greater chance of survival that I have weighed heavily.
Ickerous leans forward, both his hands on either side of the speaking platform We are not numerous enough in number to survive against any of the major powers, even in the immediate vicinity, and frankly, we can use all the help we can get. The "monsters" will be treated as citizens, and if they cause trouble, they will suffer under the righteous wrath of the law, just as anyone of us would. I can understand if this is an option that makes you wince, believe me, it was hard for me to come to this conclusion, but the alternative of sticking with these laws is much worse! Look at our situation, we have been barely able to repel the lizards, the orogs and the goblins and our defences are in ruins...
So many of us have died with the introduction of these laws... Ickerous shakes his head and sighs sadly at this
We have no allies, and little to no trading partners, this is all since the introduction of the monstrous and slaver races laws. I ask you how much longer can Sanctuary survive? A day, a week, a month? Maybe even a whole year. We need to take what we can get to ensure we even have a future, and to me and I hope you, it seems abolishment of the "monstrous and slaver races" laws is the most viable option. Sanctuary's records show that goblin residents in the past have never risen up against Sanctuary. Apart from the leaders of the recent assault, it is the previous Council's fault for the blood spilled.
Ickerous shakes his head before chuckling bemusedly
But surely you might still be thinking, what would Ickerous know, I have not heard of our defenders giving voice to this issue? The destruction of these laws has the support of none other than Sheriff Barrister Fawkes himself, if the man in charge of defending our lives agrees, then surely we can as well.
Ickerous inhales and exhales deeply before continuing Please, please... stand with me for a more brighter future, at least to see that we have one at all! It is naive to think any other way.
