It is time we began to look inwards again. It is time we began thinking of the future
This city is on the brink of destruction. Make no mistake of this fact. I will not mince words as others may. I will speak only the truth to you. The Watch has not even enough numbers to man the upper and lower gates while still maintaining a presence within the city, and as of now it is only the spellguard's animatrons that stand between us and destruction by simple roaming bands of beasts.
Children on the streets of lower are going to grow up with little to no education. Orphans, so they will never be given chance to learn a trade from their parents which they may then take up.
More importantly than both of these, aberrant creatures continue to mass outside our walls, in the darkness. The minions of Chabzash and Ysinode are fast going to expend their thralls in their war. When this is done, and when desperation comes to these creatures, they will turn to one place for a final bolstering of their numbers. They will turn to us, and they may well do it in our weakened state.
We need to be ready. The funds of the watch are not near enough to facilitate speedy rearmament and reinvigoration of ranks. The spellguard could not possible continue to defend this city without the aid of a full strength watch, even with their budget. The Seekers simply continue to look outwards, for The Way. While the city crumbles they will never stray from this path of dogmatic, unrelenting searching.
It is time that a council was formed to deal with these problems. It is time trade once again begins to be stimulated, so that the Watch, Spellguard and Seekers are given adaquate funding to their job.
It is time that The Seekers be mandated by the council to take a more active role in the defence of this settlement, as they should be. It is time their efforts be turned towards scouting missions that will enlighten us to the threats that may come to the gates of this city. It is time they provided us with the kind of information that may well be vital to the survival of this city.
It is time that the crusade against the aberrant mennace is widened. Each day this settlement is put at risk, as equipment of illithid craft is freely carried by our citizens. Who knows the inherna t risks these things may cause our city? Indeed, each day The Seekers, The Watch and even The Council are left to their own devices. A policy that has led to a former councilor being uncovered as a thrall of Intryzz far too late for my liking. It is time that screening of our highest levels of office is performed periodically to ensure thralls and minions of aberrants never again be given chance to infiltrate our settlement.
Without the voice of temperance that Grigor Starag offered the council this city has become to come apart. A new voice need rise so that this city may be fully rebuilt. A new voice need be heard on the council so that orphans on our streets will find homes and apprentice jobs. A new voice need boom out from the council of the necessity of security, protection and some semblance of normality. So many are afraid, and rightly so. But I promise if I am elected I will do my best to bring back the peace of mind you once enjoyed when the gates of this city stood strong, and when a watchman was little more than a shout away.
Offer Ordinant Callat Mordriau your vote, and I will work to bring peace and security back to this settlement.
