Quickbars

When people make screenshots, the first thing I always look at are the quickslots/bars. A player's quickbar really says so much about a player! Most people who die 12 times around the clock usually have their (first) quickbar filled with:

- Clothing - Helmets - Weapons - Shields - Special Domain Power - Cure Minor Wounds - Herbs - Text

All nice and useful. But quickly pressing F1 to pull out that cute designer outfit. It deserves a lol.

The key to wtfpwnsaucewithouthavingaspoon is ... In my pocket. A pocket filled with Healing potions, Invisibility Potions and Speed potions.

Detect mode is no. 1 for me. Allows me to flick in between walking and running with ease. No. 2 is the WornSword.

Everytihng else is filled with a random cocktail of emotes, speshul items, and fashion accesories.

C'mon, Kroffee. What's the point in kicking ass if you can't do it in style.

There's a way of setting a walk key which means that you don't get the frequent search checks when all you are gunning for is a way to not run around like a lunatic. You can also click shift when you click the mouse (to the position you want to go to) to walk.

1 - Knockdown 2 - Weapon 3 - Detect Mode 4 - Ranged Weapon 5 - Expertise 6 - Speed Potion 7 - True Strike Potion 8 - Power Attack / Improved Power Attack 9 - Potion of Seeing 10 - Holy Shit Potion (usually a PFE, sometimes a Sip of the Void or a sludge drink) 11 - Healing potion 12 - Invis potion

It may vary if I'm playing something other than a fighter, but lets be honest, how often do I play something other than a fighter?

Number one is stealth, stealth I tell you!

Damn straight.

CTRL Quickbar: (PvP) Charge/Use items such as the Dunwarren Device, high level summon themes, offensive wands.

SHIFT: Rest (Yes. Even including the switch between clothes/armor)

Suggest you do the same, Worny! 'Cus Worn's getting worn out if he keeps dying due to unorganized quickslots! :)

F1 is either sneak or detect evil F2 is detect mode F3 is melee weapon F4 is range weapon F12 is invis potions

rest varies, usually some healing.

Well, yes, but then you lose the free search/spot/listen checks! That's useful for elves, though, because they don't get detect mode.

In addition to things you folks have already mentioned:

At least 2 melee weapons. It's a bummer to be disarmed and suddenly be at the mercy of half a dozen AoO's each round.

A worn item (ring, cloak, etc) that renders healing, so when I stand up after being knocked into negatives, it's still in my quickbar. (Even better if I also wear an item to grant invisibility, or that can cast something like Haste or Balagarn's Iron Horn.)

Mine change everytime I die and have to re-arrange things.

All your quickslots make me laugh.

Using Detect Mode to walk? Lolz.

MadCaddies All your quickslots make me laugh.

Using Detect Mode to walk? Lolz.

MadCaddies just buys a Full Plate and a Towershield and holds down Stealth Mode. Because he owns like that.

I use W to walk and my quickslot set-up will put you all to shame, and so it will remain a secret.

W is move forward for most of us MadCads, which is running if you don't turn on something that reduces speed to 50%. I've heard about a way to walk using a specified key while not in detect mode, but I'm pretty sure it takes some technically tweakin' to set it that way. There have been discussions in the past that everyone should set themselves in this mode for fairness sake, since Search mode would be someone who is actively looking around at ALL times in an absurdly paranoid manner. Noone does that, and to do so really is unfair to our stealth using players.

All in all though, it's not worth it in my opinion, considering that if someone wants to sneak up on you THAT badly, they're going to use an invis potion or have 20+ stealth skills and you're not going to have a chance in hell at seeing them anyways. Well, aside from the 5% chance in hell from our "natural twenty" rule that states that even a peasant can hit a Balor, a paraplegic can jump a gorge, or other such impossible/nonsense situations. But that's our silly d20 thing, and beside the point.

Man, I really pulled that one off topic. Enough of that, back to the question at hand.

-F12 is the ideal invis potion slot.

-F3 is a great spot for melee weapon, since it's just above the W key for movement.

Aside from that, for some of us laptop users, the function keys are just too damn small to bother with. Manual clicking is so much easier... at least for me.

Win.

Yep. "w" is where it's at. Middle finger on "w", ring finger on "a", pointer on "d". No need for detect or stealth to walk.

I use W for running, S for walking, and X for walking backwards. Win-win situation!

Mine change depending on who or what I'm fighting really. There are a few good tips in here for newer players though, for certain. Using the keyboard to drive is an excellent alternative to clicking on areas with the mouse. (NWN Pathfinding is awful). Hotkeyed invis, expedious retreat, or haste will likely save your life in a pinch.

Wrexsoul I use W for running, S for walking, and X for walking backwards. Win-win situation!

Word.

typical hotbar for Calor (elven archer):

steatlh bow rapier/shield rapid shot called shot arm called shot leg drink of fleeing potion of invis underdark healing purple crystal healing rod herbs

although, now I'm thinking that I should put my cure crits on page 1, and switch herbs to shift... Hope that I don't misclick still thinking that its herbs.

If I play a caster I keep a similar first page switching the bow stuff to more potions or weapons and nightshade.

Then, for the 2nd page I put all healing/defensive spells.

For the 3rd page all offensive spells. That way I know which page to pull up in the heat of battle.

I use W for running, S for walking, and X for walking backwards. Win-win situation!

On a personal note, I detest using the keyboard. But I hate, even more, having to hold down "shift" while I click with my mouse to achieve a walking speed with my elves.

I generally avoid putting my most expensive consumables on page 1... that's so I don't accidentally consume them by letting go of the "shift" or "ctrl" key too soon when I meant to choose an item on page 2 or 3. Thus, I'll have cure serious on page 1, but my cure critical would be on page 2. (In this case, I'd use the same function key... F9 for cure serious, shift-F9 for cure critical).

prestonhunt

10 - Holy Shit Potion

Yeah, I got that one too. The rest is usually beers, wine and corny one-liners.

Caster Types:

Stealth (Druid?) / Search on F1.

After that: First Quickbar - (Stronger) offensive Spells and short duration protective spells (Stoneskin, Ghostly Visage) - this excluses spells such as Acid Splash, Magic Missile (if you lack slots)

First Quickbar - Invisibility Potion, Speed potion, Healing potion

Second Quickbar - Defensive spells. Spells you cast before going into battle, and preferably those with a long duration. Bull's Strength, Fox's Cunning, Elemental Shield, Prot. from Evil.

Third Quickbar: Up to you! Clothes, Cantips, Hot charge/use items, Quickkey "/DM Got a second to help me out? AI BUG. Monsters can't own me anymore" etc.

First bar: General basic use stuff, things I'll use the most. Invis, speed pots, healing wands and class abilities.

Second bar: General buffs, some more healing.

Third bar: Hardcore stuff.

I use T to walk. And my quickslot bar is pretty empty, since I'm carrying so little items (although I do have emotes for items I no longer have, but will have again eventually). Let's just one say one of my items is very very very very heavy and takes up the place of the many consumables I want to have.

On a related note, I hate consumables. They usually end up killing me rather than saving me.
