Sealed statement for the Watch

A sealed envelope, pressed with a wax stamp is delivered to the Watch House. The letter inside obviously written by someone who has a steady and well-focused hand. The strokes are bold, and the style seems to be written to impress while at the same time be highly readable.

I, Lord Delorin Drake, hereby testify the following to be true to the best of my knowledge:

During the dark of Uktar 18th I heard a sending calling for aid to battle a warren of Troglodytes. I responded to this sending to meet a Dwarf by the name of Durin Hammerfall. A large group of individuals gathered and among that group was an Elven Druidess by the name of Eliase'thalin.

One of the individuals seeking to join the group was a Duergar who I later learned to be called "Mhurg". Durin respectfully told him that he does not work with Duergar, as any sensible individual would, and the Duergar then began to get angry. He tried to taunt Durin into fighting on the street, but the group, collectively, encouraged him to just forget about the Duergar and leave.

As we left the city I saw a dwarf following us. I warned Durin that it was likely the Duergar but he was not concerned. This dwarf continued to follow us until we entered the lair of the Troglodytes, and after we were in combat with the scaled monstrosities, we were set upon by him. He had many powerful enchantments and he attacked - without care or mercy - several individuals in my group.

I attempted to fill him with arrows, and he ran away. We later discovered that he laid several traps in order to kill us, but we skillfully disarmed them. We could not find him so we proceeded deeper into the lair, believing he had left.

It was then that he set upon us again, after we've engaged in combat, and he was driven off. Again we could not locate him, and thus we proceeded to be set upon a third time - this time resulting in the death of the Elven Druidess Eliase'thalin.

We called out to him "Why? Why did you slay her?" He did not respond. He said nothing, attempting to cloak his identity behind a helm. He tried to lure Durin alone and they battled, and we joined - and the murderer fled.

We could do nothing to save our companion. Her death is a direct result of his barbaric actions. There is no doubt in my mind that it was this Duergar who killed her, and as proof of this I also testify the proceeding events.

After returning to the city, I went to inform the Watch of the death of Eliase'thalin and the possible suspect. I gave the above testimony to Sergeant Quinn of the Sanctuary Watch, and then later I spotted the murderous fiend inside the Last Stand. He was having a drink, so I immediately went to warn the Sergeant.

By the time we arrived we found him outside the Last Stand. An attempted arrest was made, but he fled - an obvious sign of guilt.

As I assisted the Watch and a Spellguard Agent in searching the city for the criminal, we met another man in the Lower Ward of the city who accused the Duergar of slaying a friend in the Arena. I offer this testimony as further proof that the Duergar has not only killed once, but twice, and will likely kill again if not arrested and stoned.

It is my firm belief that all citizens of the city should be warned of this villainous creature that is called "Mhurg", and warned of his dangerous nature. He has killed at least twice and is likely to kill again. May the Gods Bless the Watch and Spellguard in finding this monster.

Signed, Lord Delorin Drake Uktar 19, 1373 DR
