Letter Left at Blue Mushroom for Ivandur

Ivandur;

I turn to you for aid because I know you oppose the same evil I do. I have heard rumors of your distrust for the Spellguard, more dedicated to maintaining their power and control than in protecting people. Recently, studying the making of svirneblin animatrons I learned disturbing things and now the Spellguard seeks my death.

I do not know what rumor it is that is really true, many I hear are clearly lies but at least one has them riled up enough that I have been attacked. Now I must hide myself from their gaze and rely on a braver man to learn the truth.

The rumors most likely being hidden by the Spellguard, and one is clearly true enough to worry them that I learned it are:

1. They maintain specialized invisible animatrons that patrol the city secretly gathering information and eliminating enemies. You can see their foot prints sometimes, but no magic reveals their visages.

2. The animatrons are created in bizare rituals that bind the spirits of devils into unliving machines. Portals made to summon these fiends were created by the svirneblin. The devils offer the Spellguard power and control of Sanctuary in exchange for summoning them to our world.

3. Spellguards are even now developing prototype animatrons made from the bodies of our deceased. This is the real reason the mausoleum does not bury our dead, they're not being cremated they're being used in unholy expiraments.

4. Spellguard sigils do not keep our use of magic hidden. They have nothing to do with hiding magic, but are part of a ploy to keep the use of all magic; divine and arcane; under their control to allow them to maintain absolute authority even over the Council through the power of their unregulated magical authority.

5. The Spellguard is enacting horrible rites to obtain immortality, persuing the path to lichdom or even binding their own souls into their machines.

The corruption and the powerhungry nature of the Spellguard is a grave threat. The fearful of Sanctuary rely on a brave and honorable man who can learn the truth.

Forgive me in not revealing my name, but if this letter is captured they're search for me will only intensify. I have told you but a little, more you can learn if you will deign to aid me and the many others the Spellguard hunts.

"Blue Roger"

Blue Roger,

There is little I can do aside from investigate these and bring my findings before the council. It will likely be dismissed as mere coincidence or some other rubbish. Regardless, I will investigate this and should I be elected unto the council, as I plan to campaign, I will continue to keep a close eye on the Spellguard.

[Unsigned]

I have uncovered more information you may wish although the Spellguard still hounds me, and I am still not safe to reveal myself in Sanctuary.

The Spellguard is delving into research to bind an infernal being called a rakasha into their service. This being is not tied to an animatron, but will be used freely once bound to the will of the Spellguards. I do not know what it means, but the term "The Smile" or "the Red Smile" appears linked to this information. Is there anything you know that can help me learn more?

On another note, you run for the Council we hear. We wish you well if you seek to weaken the Spellguard. More importantly, we can help you root out a corruption in the Council.

Victoria Colvin, a whore monger. Conditions in her brothel are not what she claims. The girls are poorly treated by clients. Colvin forces them into depraved acts that stimulate the mind of the jaded; often including chains and whips. Forced to re-enact images of the slavery we all hold abhorrent.

This is all tied into the death of Councilor Paxtor we've learned. He had a habit of putting women in the brothel through torture involving whips and chains. Colvin covered up much of it blackmailing Paxtor in exchange for support on the Council, but when Paxtor went too far a girl died. Needing to cause a distraction that wouldn't hurt her image, Colvin tricked a foolish and rash dwarf known for his quick fists and slow mind to look into the mess.

When the dwarf entered the scene, uninformed purposefully by Colvin of what was occuring he lapsed into a murderous frenzy perhaps aided by something in his beer. He killed the Councilor, drew attention away from the sick sport Colvin allows in her establishment, and rid Colvin of a political enemy.

While the dwarf was found guilty of murder, and Colvin bribed witnesses over 3000 gold coins to keep quiet about the crime scene and the details leading up to Paxtor's murder; at least one of the poor girls who was finally able to escape the whore house came to us with this story. If the truth was heard, it will help you discredit a corrupt member of the Council.
