Hello,
I thought I had thoughtfully researched the design of my newest character and decided that it was important to me to avoid incurring an exp penalty due to multiclassing.
Her race is wood elf and, according to the website, her preferred class is Ranger. As I understand it, her preferred class should not calculate into determining whether or not she should receive the 20 percent penalty to her exp. However, her one level of ranger (taken primarily for color) has most certainly been cutting her.
After some careful study, it also became apparent that this penalty does, in fact, apply to exploration exp and scripted end quest exp--not just exp for monster kills.
I would be very grateful for your help, advice and/or creative means around this problem.

Subraces go by the standard race's favoured class. This has been brought up before but I don't recall what, if anything, was said on the matter.

I brought it up previously, as I understand the idea was to get the info on the website changed to make it more clear.
Basically you are just a normal elf with a Wood elf skin equipped in the creature hide slot, and the way the game works, an item cannot influence things like favored class.. Not without custom content anyway, it might be even hard coded..
Here's my post:

I've prodded ExileStrife to fix this when he next updates the website. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!
