When you respawn, there is a chest filled with some LOVELY to find, crappy items. I love this idea, long was in favor of it as part of the respawn system so you don't respawn totally naked and penniless.
However, you can loot the entire chest, sell much of the gear for a little gold. All the items should be marked Stolen or Plot just so players aren't going down there and clearing out all the broken shields every reset just for 15 gold. Someone will do it.

I can hook the respawn script up to clear out the chest, and then refill it with a small selection of items, all marked stolen, whenever somebody respawns. It could probably even vary the selection based on the race/class of the character respawning. Will that work?
That way, it both won't run out, and will also not be a source of easy gold.

A very good idea actually. Easy to once the new patch is out: SetName to "Busted XXX" and SetItemProperty to -1 DMG.

It all should be already marked stolen or plot. Are there items in there that aren't?

Yes.
Its why I posted that! The armor, shield, maybe one of the club types are all sellable.
