Longbrook, Watch House

Master Longbrook,

I understand that Private Sheevs is dead. I find myself wondering in what way I am best suited to assist the city and the Watch, through working with you. Should you wish me to stay the course, I shall do that. If you can think of a more appropriate avenue I may persue, than perhaps a meeting is in order.

Additionally, I would be pleased if you could inform me as to the ruling of those imbeciles which lead to the drow arcanist animating several dead Helmites to attack the gates. I ultimately lost my life in that battle in a failed confrontation with that wizard. I am only able to write this letter at all due to the actions of an honest man I met moments before you called upon my assistance. Tell me they were justly punished.

Cordially, Thomas Knickerson

Old Man Knickerson,

Firstly, I thank you for your duty to the city on that perilous day. It is citizens like you that keep this city in one piece. Secondly, to answer your inquiries, the following verdicts were reached by the Council, after arrests and extensive prosecutions by myself:

1.) Possum Foxfoot AKA Clover AKA Other alias pending:

Guilty of Endangering Sanctuary. Given 30 days to raise 20,000 gold, which is to be given to the families of the Watchmen that died defending the gates of Sanctuary.

Ruling made by Councilor Bhast.

2.) Ferdinand Fenwick AKA Fen.

Not guilty of endangering Sanctuary, despite own admission of guilt. Released as per ordered by Councilor Von Matterheim. Von Matterheim also wishes he be given a medal for his "brave" actions.

3.) Aravar Carashadir. (No known alias)

Not guilty of endangering Sanctuary, despite own admission of guilt. Released as per ordered by Councilor Von Matterheim. Von Matterheim also wishes he be given a medal for his "brave" actions.

NOTE: Aravar has come to me in private, asking if he could play a part in helping to pay for the damages he brought down upon this city by his foolishness. I have instructed him to aid Possum Foxfoot AKA Clover in raising 20,000 gold for the family's of our dead boys.

If you are as outraged by this as I am, I suggest you write to Councilor Bhast, Runehammer and appeal to their wisdom and years of service to the city, and ask for a Council Tribunal to overule Matterheim's most terrible ruling.

Here's a copy of the letters and correspondances I've been having with the good Councilor Bhast:

[the copied letters are all stained in what you can only guess is Rothe Grease]

Most esteemed Councilor,

I write to you today to address two subjects. Firstly, it is this humble Private's opinion that you are without question the wisest Councilor to have a seat currently. After having to sit through an immensely ridiculous trial which was presided over by Councilor Von Matterheim, and prosecuted by myself, I find my faith in Sanctuary's Justice to be shaken. The girl I prosecuted for you last night, Possum Foxfoot, AKA Clover, AKA other alias pending, had comrades with her that also played a very large role in the Undead Invasion.

The names of these comrades are Aravar Carashadir, and Ferdinand Fenwick. I am just a simple man Councilor. A man who enjoys a fine meal, and a man who breaks his back tirelessly for this city, oftentimes without thanks. I don't care. As long as we're safe, that makes my job worth it. However, when I see people like Ferdinand Fenwick and Aravar Carashadir (who were directly responsible for my death at gates during the defense of this invasion) told that they deserve a MEDAL by Councilor Matterheim, and let free to go not guilty despite confessing their own GUILT, I'm not even sure what to believe in anymore.

Honestly sir, you're one of the few Councilors any of us trust, and I'm hoping to hear back from you soon. Me and the other grunts can handle getting treated like dirt by the locals, but when the Council starts doing it, we don't know what to believe in anymore.

Thank you in advance,

Private Hector J. Longbrook.

Esteemed Councilor,

I apologize for interrupting your very busy schedule. Since I assume you are busy, I will just make it known that the ruling made by Councilor Von Matterheim was so off the wall that I humbly request that the trial verdict of "Not Guilty" regarding Ferdinand Fenwick and Aravar Carashadir to be overseen and considered by a Council Tribunal. I believe such a case warrants as much, as this verdict sets a very dangerous precedent amongst the local adventuring blokes.

A letter to update me on the situation would be appreciated, or perhaps I can swing by your fine estate when next I am on patrol.

Singed,

Private Hector J. Longbrook.

Councilor Runehammer,

A lot of the boys look up to you, and admire the time and dedication that you've put into keeping this city safe. First in the Watch, and then in the Council. I'm hoping you can help us out, and give us grouchy Privates a fair ruling on this matter, by means of a Council Tribunal. We don't ask for much, we just ask that the Council recognize these people are GUILTY of Endangering Sanctuary.

Signed,

Private Hector J. Longbrook.

Spread the word. Maybe if we can get enough angry citizens to petition this foolishness the Council will over-rule this silly verdict which sets a very dangerous precedent for any further instances of hostile interlopers invading our city after being riled up by foolish adventurers that call Sanctuary Home. Feel free to meet with me in the coming days to discuss any ways you can better serve the city. I've always got something that needs fixing.

Signed,

Private Hector J. Longbrook.

P.S. I was told I was killed by a spell called "FINGER OF DEATH." Is there any way to protect myself from this spell, if a future battle against the drow at our gates ensues?

Master Longbrook,

I have written the Council and have asked for a Tribunal to review the case against Foxtrot, Fenwick and Carashadir. I have also taken it upon myself to locate other individuals that would be interested in forming some sort of union to express dissatisfaction when the Council is not representing our best interests. I have included for you my letter to the Council regarding this matter.

The spell Finger of Death is known as an Instant Death Spell and is best warded against by the blessing referred to as Death Ward. It is worth noting that the creature we fought recently which killed our scout with a foul look is known as a Bodok, and that a Death Ward will protect the recipient from the disturbing effects of its gaze as well. Only a priest strong in his faith will have access to this protection.

Safe Patrols, Thom Knickerson

Thom Knickerson Honorable Council Person,

I am writing you to express my strong dissatisfaction with the results of a recent trial regarding endangerment to Sanctuary. My name is Thomas Knickerson and I was asked by Private Longbrook to assist him personally in the dealings with the drow arcanist. I fell not far from Private Longbrook while protecting the city.

I am not a man taken to becoming involved with the process of governance, however I have never lived in a city under such constant threat of annihilation. I understand the Council is often made up of several men and women inexperienced in ruling. To this end I will be forming a coalition of citizens who will assist and support you by providing feedback when we feel you are not representing our best interests. We will achieve this end primarily through petitions. I want to make it clear that we wish to support you, not undermine your efforts.

I am currently organizing a letter writing campaign and a petition for a Tribunal to review the case against Possum Foxtrot, Ferdinand Fenwick, and Aravar Carashadir as they most certainly are guilty of endangering Sanctuary.

Thank you for your time, I may be reached by letter at the Pissing Crone.

Thomas Knickerson
