Appealing Verdicts
Sanctuary is a democracy, and as such the voice of the people must be heard--even when that voice is raised in anger over the application of just laws.
All citizens have the right to appeal the decisions of the Watch upon arrests by following the proper procedure.
1) The citizen must be found guilty of a crime and pay a fine or submit to arrest. Any citizen who resists arrest automatically voids any appeal through this policy.
2) The citizen has 72 hours to contact the Watch about an appeal and must include their full name, statement of events, and punishment meted out, finally they must include a statement on why they feel the arrest requires review.
3) That statement will be presented to the arresting Watchmen. Members of the officer corp will compare both statements and issue a final ruling. An officer's arrest will be reviewed personally by the Sheriff. Any arrest requesting appeal made by the Sheriff will be reviewed by a selected group of Lieutenants.
This process is designed to ensure all citizens are treated fairly by the law. It is in no way required by the Council or subject to any approval through the Office of the Herald, Mayor, or Council. It is solely an internal improvement drafted by the Watch to ensure fairness and justice. This policy is subject to revocation at any time.
