Sneaky kids

[18:41] <Calculor> When you rest in the Beacon, there should be like a 10% chance a kid snags some of your coin.

When you rest in the Beacon, there should be like a 10% chance a kid snags some of your coin.

... so long as, if they snag your coin, there should be like a 10% chance you wake up in time to chop off their hand.

I don't see how this contributes to the server in any way. It'd be the same kind of annoyance that rogues with maxed PP would be if the skill wasn't changed in EfU, only in this case you wouldn't have even the slightest chance of some meaningful RP following the theft.

On the contrary, I think it would add in immersion. Mostly, though, it was a counter to the fact that the Beacon has free resting-- I don't think a small chance of losing 10-15 coin is that big of an annoyance!

Serves you right for sleeping next to a bunch of starving kids with a full coin pouch.

I would say no to this.

If the complaint went to the people that work at the Beacon, they would watch the kids, or chastise them, etc.

IMO-- this is an unecisary plot that won't really go anywhere. Patrons complain to the PCs that work at the Beacon, the PCs that work at the Beacon do some role play with the DM possessed NPCs, it gets resolved.

Might be fine for a one shot min-quest kind of thing, or maybe something that occurs ever now and again, but I don't think its worth hard scripting into the Beacon.

Now the begger children in the street are another matter.

If you want to do something like this-- then have it happen at the Pissing Crone.

Cyrus always was a greedy lil theif.

Mostly, though, it was a counter to the fact that the Beacon has free resting

Then why not directly address what you perceive to be the problem? (That is, get rid of free resting?)

My earlier joke aside, I'm rather against this idea. Seems it would detract more than it would add to RP. Specifically, it wouldn't penalize the players you intend to. Those who go to the Beacon as a meta way to get free sleep will simply find the NEXT cheapest way of sleep (without risk of pickpockets.) Meanwhile, those who go there as part of the RP aspect of their character will be taxed for it.

Furthermore, I'm not sure how the lack of a "free" place to sleep would be more realistic. Sleep is a necessary evil, as is expelling body waste, and cultures generally find ways to ensure citizens have safe and healthy access to facilities to deal with both. Sometimes this is done through governing bodies, and sometime through charity.

I see the price you pay at the Inn reflect the convenience of location, as well as luxuries a shelter wouldn't provide. (Privacy, for example).

But if people are going there for the RP aspect of their character, it shouldn't be a problem to have to deal with such a minor inconvenience, comparatively.

I like this idea, I find it fitting. It is not so harsh a 'penalty' to chafe under, nor should you really view it as such.

I don't think this particular idea is happening.

A slightly related idea has been implemented, though:

Sleeping at the Beacon is less comfortable than sleeping at a luxury inn, and so you won't recover as large a percentage of your hit points.
