To the Watch

Just a quick report on some events from today, the 28th of Marpenoth.

An ogre was discovered in the caverns beneath Lower, connected to by the gnomish tunnels. He had some connection to the mysteriously appearing burning skulls that have been plaguing the city.

I returned to the cavern to seek news of an earlier expedition I was travelling with, to find the ogre about to lunch on one Ferdinand Fenwick. After reprimanding the ogre for his behaviour and swiftly escaping, I gathered some reinforcements to recover the body.

Private Longbrook responded with other citizens, and he must be commended for doing his duty well and taking most of the ogre's blows as we all attempted to bring him down.

However. When it came to the retrieval of Fenwick, his personal effects, and an attempt to raise him at the Hold, Longbrook's behaviour was distinctly selfish and without honour. He claimed a few of Fenwick's belongings and all of his coin as "compensation" for doing his job.

Unless the Watch has ceased to pay their employees I see of no reason why Longbrook deserved extra payment for doing his duty, especially without the permission of the deceased or his relatives. I aided Fenwick in confronting Longbrook over the matter after the raise was successfully seen to. I was unable to stay for the outcome of the matter, but I hope that Longbrook apologised to the ex-deceased and returned the goods.

If not, I expect a ranking officer to reprimand him and demand that he do so immediately. Such behaviour does not bode well for our law enforcement, if they will only aid the city when it benefits them. Even if the goods have been returned, I would like to see that the Watch reprimand Longbrook for his frankly appalling behaviour.

Sincerely,

Tarfil Greatvine The Last Stand Inn

Private Longbrook will be reprimanded fully and reminded that he is paid by the Watch for a specific reason. This is not the normal policy of the Watch. Private Longbrook has been with us for only a few days.

Mr. Fenwick has the Watch's condolences.
