I know that Turning is a ability that has some variation: combination of your d20 roll and your charisma modifier (which is further modified depending on if you are a cleric or paladin).
What I'd like to see is the dice rolls show up in the combat log. I guess its just frustrating when I attempt Turing 5 times and not a single zombie gets scared....the numbers would at least give me peace of mind that my character isn't gimped in a holy way. :)
To further elaborate...I think that when a mob of zombies is around, that AT LEAST 1 should be turned away no matter what. Perhaps not a boss undead (as they have a higher DC and more hit dice) but when I'm surrounded and I raise up that holy symbol, I find it hard to believe that none of them are going to be worried about me.

Some undead are harder to turn. Leave it to the player to find that out on his own, I say.

I really don't see the overall benefit of adding in the dice rolls for the OOC benefit of knowing what you roll. If you can't turn worth a squat, just RP it. Really, what would your character do to find a lowly zombie is laughing at him when he raises his holy symbol. That, is what I would like to see.

Just like with skill checks of any other sort, the reason for showing it is because the results of the mechanics often show how to RP something well. You roll a 16+ against a given creature and your character knows he tried his hardest and failed. Thats when it's time to get scared. You roll a 1 or 2 and your character might show some self disappointment before attempting again.
The interface (even with Arkov's hard work) doesn't support zombies laughing at you or hesitating before pushing on, and it doesn't emulate your character's lack of faith in his attempt. The same dilemna pops up everywhere such as making a melee attack (is the creature too fast or are you just not at your best that day?), dealing combat damage (glancing blow or just a tough creature), picking a lock (a stupid mistake or a well designed lock), saving throws (a slow reaction or a well cast spell).
By the rationalization that we should play it as we see it, we should just beg the DMs to remove all dice rolls from the interface period sacrificing all the immersion aids that they offer.
My proposal would be that we should show the dice rolls, but not the DC. A cleric should be able to tell if his voice cracked or he lacked conviction with his turning, but he shuold never be able to tell the determination of the enemy until he witnesses it's breaking point.
I would suggest this idea also for many other DC based checks in which the character should be able to know how well he performed ( 90% of cases ), but not be able to easilly guage the difficulty of the task at hand.
Not showing DC checks is the solution only for problems in which the character shouldn't know that they were even challenged. Such as searching (suddenly showing a check is a dead give away that something hidden is nearby even if the player fails it) or hiding in shadows (a check would warn the hider that another invisble or hiding entity was close enough to possibly detect them even if the player hadn't detected that entity yet themself).
Whether showing the DC of the task or not. I support the idea of showing the modified result of turning rolls.

I second the above statement.

I would be surprised to learn if this is even possible.

i have seen it in a single player module I think. The paladin one. Nocturne trilogy I think its called.
Twilight, Midnight and Dawn.
Perhaps someone with scripting knowledge could check that out.

The most obvious way I can think of that would work would be to scrap the current Turn Undead all together and make a new one from scratch which also displays the rolls.
Whether this is worth the bother is another story. I'm inclined to say "no".

It would be pretty easy to set up a simple message informing you about how well you rolled on a turning check. I'll add that in, unless there are objections beyond the bother of doing so.
As for modifying the actual mechanics of Turn Undead so that you always turn at least one monster, that is possible but I don't think the case for making that modification is strong.

Turn Undead should not be modified so you always turn at least one undead. Bad mojo in that.
1) If the only undead near me happens to be a lich....
2) If my cleric has 6 CHA he shouldn't be turning even a new leaf over let alone an undead monstrosity.

Agreed.
I do like removing the DCs, however.
