Whoring for barbarians

As many of you know, or may not know, the barbarian class is one of those that got tweaked.

These tweaks are good. *very good*

In fact, they may be too good. I would argue that EFU barbs are potentially much more lethal than 3.5 barbs. But thats not why im making this post.

Im making this post because I want more people to embrace their inner barbarian. Barbarians kick ass. They kick ass outwardly, as in bum rushing huge crowds and swinging for the fences, or inwardly, as they can be utterly peaceful and decent, but man when you piss them off they go all hulk style on you and then youre bleeding bad.

Barbarians are a class, but they are no more easy to categorize than rogues or wizards are. Yes they all do the same thing: take abuse and give abuse, but they can do it so many delightful ways.

Aside from naturey clan barbarians who wear loincloths and speak with accents, you can have wise barbarians, dumb ones, semi intelligent ones, ones who dont lead by word but by deed, ones that murder, ones that destroy, and ones that get drunk and cuss a lot.

When I log in I am seeing a few more pureblood barbarians, and less multiclass. Yes the new rules make cleric 3 barb x the new powergame setup, but I insist that with the available in game self buffs, barbarians are the class to beat. Yes you need PFE potions, but thats nothing new.

With the damage resistance, the speed inreases, the rage increases, there is limitless potential for serious asskickery. In light of Howland's Sox Roxoring post, those of you who play back of the line, crossbow shooting, occasional spellslingers who are inwardly tired of it, be a brash barbarian! Death isn't as certain as it once was. Well, for you. For you enemies, its as certain as ever.

MissingSLC,

Whore for Barbarians.

On a tangent, I've seen several postings alluding to changes in mechanics for some classes. Is there a all-inclusive spot to review these specific changes?

btw, I am playing a multi-class barbarian (not a power-build, almost the opposite -- the classes were chosen for RP reasons vs. powerhouse reasons) and I have to say, it's great for bad days when you want to log in and get all your aggressions out! You can be as ornery, miserable, cynical, ticked-off, etc, etc as you want, and it's IC...

So what, that's not true for all characters? ;)

I think this must be the thread you're looking for. https://efupw.com/efu1-forum/topic/37/377/mechanics-changes/index.html

I'm between concepts right now, and I think I'd really like to try a really tribal, spiritual barbarian sort of character, but at the moment I've got something else lined up, I think.

This is me.

I have one thing to say.....Charisma is not a Barbarians prime requisite and shouldn't be. Barbarians with low Cha are now just pissed off fighters. Kinda dumb... maybe for a prestige class that uses Cha like the terrifying rager or whatever, but penalizing low Cha Barbs is just weird and I do not get it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

"Actually, as far as I recall, Barbarian are not penalized on the aspect. They made it so when you do have minus, it equals to the original modifier.

So if you have 10 Charisma, you get bonus. If you gave 10+ you get bigger bonus. And if you have 6 you get no bonus at all." - My mistake, not true see next reply

((edit: I added the lines to avoid misleads, howland corrected me the next reply))

That isn't correct, reduced charisma does reduce the effectiveness of rages. Although this change is not canon, I do think it suits EfU. We're not a canon server, and this is a desirable change for lots of reasons. Rages in EfU should be considered more than just getting angry, but a semi-magical/mystical/inner toughness/ability. I know people will disagree about the merits of the change, but at the end of the day we have to make those calls that we think are best for the server.
