Something a little humorous

I laughed my ass off at this. Sad thing is I strangely can relate to it.

IS THIS REAL ?!?!? THEY'RE JOKING RIGHT? Because if they're not... this not something to laugh at. This is quite tragic...

That was golden. Part of it is going into my sig now!

This is why I don't do PnP.

Ladocicea This is why I don't do PnP.

They don't play Joe Blow PnP; They have "ascended into the next level" PnP. :D

All PnP ascends, or rather, descends to this level of "Sitting in a distastefully decorated room with nerdy guys pretending and imagining everything".

At least with NWN and such games there's visual stimuli to help you on your way to immersion.

I'd like to see a PnP group that really convincingly provides an escapist form of entertainment rivalling that of a game or film. I doubt there is such a thing.

I don't know...

Those guys sound a lot like the voices in this:

I think our CN Barbarian needs some visual stimuli as well, when Elite Game Master Doug-Doug is going to roleplay him having sex with the 'Elven Princess of the Pleasure Palace of the Batuvian Demon Hordes.'

If thats not a joke there very sad.

That is obviously a parody of PnP, directed and acted. Quite funny as such.

I like PnP and to me nwn is only a poor way to replace it, because I have no PnP group atm. *shrugs*

XD

But seriously, anyone care to explain how this differs from your PnP experience?

Honestly, I'm very interested to find out just what is so good about it. How you can get that into something which presents you with nothing to represent what you're meant to be experiencing is difficult for me. I guess I'm just not a PnP person.

It varies in every way from my pnp experience. Though I have met people just like Doug-Doug and Raymond.

Sitting in a basement with nerds playing a game isnt a bad thing. These people are your friends after all. Though that and online role playing are quite different. To me a PnP game is just a fun reason for old friends to get together, have pizza, drink beer, and laugh at each other. It's usually very amusing but not what I'd call immersive. It's no fun at all to try roleplaying with people you can't stand, just like any other social activity.

Though if immersion is what you desire, I don't see why animated pixels on your monitor would have anything to do with it. What constantly draws me back is the spark of life you have given your characters. I like spending time with you folks because you're all so very fun, interesting, imaginitive, and charming. Nearly every time I turn around I meet someone I really hate, love or admire, or an amazing combination. When you act out your avatars in a believable fashion it's a remarkable thing. I've only encountered it very recently in City of Arabel and in higher concentrations in Escape from the Underdark. If not for the folks I've met in these places I may have missed something very unique. For all you wonderful people I've met and managed to spend time with, I'd like to offer a very heartfelt thank you.

(that being said, you are all nerds, as am I, and no roleplayer is going to convince me otherwise. Wonderful nerds really.)

I actually do PnP and saw this video the other night. Pretty funny stuff.

Regular PnP isn't that bad... those guys were LARPing a lot, which I can't bring myself to do. It just seems too weird.

My only real complaint about PnP is it can be a LOT slower than NWN which takes care of a lot of the rolling and nonsense for you. At the same time, NWN is kind of limited in that unlike D&D you cannot add all the content you wish, like new prestige classes.

Winston Martin (that being said, you are all nerds, as am I, and no roleplayer is going to convince me otherwise. Wonderful nerds really.)

I am no nerd. I just don't ...really have a social life at the moment.

On a more serious note, I have never PnP'ed, and I have never felt the urge to do so. Though I can understand how wonderful it must to think creatively, and live in a world with no charted boundaries. Literally, the sky's the limit. I am a dreamer, big time, and I think I understand how such a session might (or might not work for you). (Depending on whether a Dungeon Master can keep your interest).

Perhaps I ought to look into LARPIN with my brother. Rawr.

Really, the dorkiness is what keeps me from wanting to do it.

But if I found people who were into it, I'd give it a try.

It's more the fear of saying, "Okay, I take my Sword if Eviserent's Slaying (+6) and beat that halfling over the head until the white meat shows." and then having people giggle at me >.>

What I've always wondered; Where's the fun in playing Epic PnP? I like it when people actually excist who are, in fact, stronger than you. What's the fun in going on your monthly quest to slay another deity of the Outer Realms?

I play with some old-timers from first edition. I must say, despite how hilarious that movie was, I didn't see any semblance of my game with their's. We have a pretty normal situation, where we joke and laugh. Its hard to describe, but it feels more like you're playing a table-top game or a board game like Risk or Warhammer. The role-playing element only comes in when we do puzzles. We don't even give our characters names, but we don't metagame, and the DM is superb. Its only once we get outside of the game room to have a meal or something that we sound like nerds. We talk a mile a minute about feats and skills and combat routines, and sometimes in public too. But all-in-all, it just feels about as nerdy as, say, a LAN party would. We're pretty down-to-earth. I think the only way to do real in depth character developing RP is over the net, such as PnP on IRC or NWN.

That all sounds spot on to me, Secutor.

I dunno man,,,,some people REALLY get into this stuff.

I remember as a Kid going to these events that where held at the local park which if I think about it could be considered as LARP'ing. My dad would take me to those thoses events and they where from a child's perspective very awsome. Everyone was wallking around wearing leather tunics ,which symbolized armor and weilding for the most part plastic sitcks shaped with various paddings to make them resemble swords. Even the large, fat guy or "mage" of the group had little red balls he would throw to act as his spells. The group would be split into two groups and they would hunt each other down in the woods, Role-Playing as they went along.

As for the PnP part....I was invited by a college friend to go play a few hours of this game called shadowrun. Looking for a new PnP group and maybe a game besidse D&D I descided to go and check it out. It was fun but when my friend told me they Role play alot, he ment it.. The first thing I was ask before they started was "Do I have any serious Role-Playing experience, not just simple PnP expericene." I told them what I did on NWN and they let me play (( I can't believe they tested me!)) What I was expecting was a little different then what I had set in my mind. Unlike my old group which did what exactly Sectuor's group did, these guys got into it. Sometimes the GM (( This isn't D&D we're playing)) would just shout out Role-play and the group would just start carrying on a serious conversation IC.
