Abolition of the "Monsterous/Slaver races" laws

Abolition of the "Monsterous/Slaver races" laws The Monsterous and Slaver races citizenship laws have progressively weakened Sanctuary since they have been instituted. The Grunstubble Clan ran off with Sanctuary's gold and no longer provide us with steel because we treated them like dirt. If we had not driven the Duergar off, we would now be able to purchase the steel we desperately need for our gates. We have no allies, no trading partners, we now stand alone because of these laws that might be ideal if we were completely dependant on our own industry and had an army of ten thousand, but unfortunately we do not have ten thousand strong, nor are we dependant on our own industry.

Sanctuary has absolutely no external allies or trading partners because we have churned those that might have once traded with or helped us. While these laws may have been introduced with the best intentions at heart, we cannot protect our walls with good intentions nor can we fashion weaponry out of good intentions.

Even the kobold filth that has taken up residence in the canal ward are willing to leave the city if the Council agrees to hand them over the ruins of Slaal'teesh and open up peaceful trade, which will yield more wealth and resources for the town while at the same time stop another war that quite honestly could spell the end for us. We have even cast of citizens that would have assisted in the defence and maintenance of our walls, such as half-orcs and tieflings.

Well intentioned half-orcs are perfect troops so long as they do not follow the abyssmal orc deities, yet we have cast them away, ignoring the fact that they are half-human as well as half-orc. "Tieflings" or "Demonspawn" are almost pure human, yet we cast them out, drawing their resentment and spite which even further hinders us.

Some might argue against the abolition of these laws, claiming Drow will be able to freely walk the streets, but if you look at the past when these laws were not instituted, I think you will find that Drow never walked the streets and were never citizens of Sanctuary.

If you feel the same as I, sign the below and let your voice be heard. I honestly believe these laws are hindering Sanctuary more than they are "protecting" it.

Then you should make a law that bans Tieflings and Half-Orcs, not half our population.

Wil the law apply to half orcs still? Drop the response of at the Crone.

Banishment should be on a case-by-case basis.

You seem to hold very little distinction to what are, in effect, two very different pieces of legislation. The monstrous laws state that any creature listed within it can and will be killed on sight by The Sanctuary Watch. These creatures include things such as goblins, kobolds, minotaurs and ogres. As well as Illithid, Beholder and other such aberrant monstrosities.

I ask all who support this candidate -- can you name but one goblin, kobold, minotaur or aberrant that has ever done any good for this city? Can you name one of those creatures that has been instrumental in the defence and betterment of this settlement? Can you name one, out of the hundreds that have passed through our gates and proceeded only to slaughter, maim, kill, steal and worse. I think you cannot.

The innocent people of this city need be protected from such creatures. Vigilance and diligence in these efforts is the only way. We cannot open the floodgates of our city to these creatures just in the hope that one or two in a thousand may hold true intentions towards us. We must make a stand. We must retain this legislation if we are to ensure the continued safety of your children, your wives and your loves ones.

In contrast, the slaver races legislation is not nearly as harsh. Tieflings, duergar and half-orcs (Among others) are more than welcome within our walls. They are more than welcome and encouraged even to aid in the defence of this city. If they prove themselves valued additions to this city, then they may gain citizenship. I may concede that requiring a council vote on a case by case basis in a bit cumbersom, and that a new system may need to be put into place, but I will NOT concede that this law is unfair or unjust.

Do not be fooled by the honeyed words and deceptions of this candidate. He will lie to you at every turn in order to see the aberrant and monstrous hoards flood into our city and destroy it. Ordinant Mordriau will always stand against such things

Vigilance and diligence always

-CANDIDATE ORDINANT MORDRIAU

Ragged handwriting scrawls across the paper beneath the Ordinant's message, followed by a crude picture of a minotaur.

Dun Remember!

I know two, who fought more then once to aid the watch. One who fought ettercaps, like any other citizen.

Not all of the slaver races should be killed on sight. Some needs to be allowed, and their cases should happen with haste. Amywieng Evrilo

P.S. Their names are saved for discretion reasons until they decides otherwise. They also saved many citizens life in the process.

Over the posting, someone has chalked on a name.

Humphrey

Horrified commoners are seen speaking in worried tones regarding the signatures, especially the Sheriff's. Many seem close to tossing rotten fruits and foods at those they see signing their names.

*A small halfling can be seen struggling with a rank sack of fruits collected from only the worst trash barrels in lower, depositing them before the collected crowds*

Do not be fooled by pretty words brothers! *twitches, glancing about* Their watching us! They want to bury the truth about everything! *hacks into a coughing fit* Rise up, take your weapons, fight back!

*encourages the mob on, throwing bits of garbage and disgusting fruit at the sign* Boooooooooo! My uncle was a goblin!

is written in a flowing golden script

People of sanctuary, even as I stand here and write these words, you eye me with distaste, yet you forget that once the forces the council swear to keep out supplied us with arms of war. They eased the parinoid minds of citizens and defenders of sanctuary by protecting us against the lizardfolk, although the threat of the lizardfolk has indeed been eliminated, the grief and torment of familes and friends that have lost something that cannot be replaced. Something that could of been prevented if this law was thought out more carefully and it's impacts explored more deeply.

While idle minds have allowed fate to take its course, I shall advert your eyes and thoughts a brief moment to another act that could provoke another atroscity happening again, I have seen adventurers heading out to hunt trolls, while this may seem a noble cause, their presence here is a necessary evil for our weakened settlement to survive. Have you considered what would happen if the troll's were eradicated or simply vanished? Yet another entry to sanctuary will be open to our enemies without any form of resistance along the way. Our towns lack of tolerance of other cultures have ensnared us into a spiral that we may never recover from without the aid of other settlers of the underdark.

That is Why I Nathan Sennes, Cleric of Waukeen, add my name to withdraw this law and urge others to do the same. Do you know of any other surface dweller settlements as big as sanctuary that would trade with us? I suspect that you do not, in our eyes slavery may be a terrible thing but who are we to judge other cultures? We can only learn to tolerate their way of life so we can better our position with trade pacts and alliances to strengthen our position in these lightless depths.
