Letter to the Watch from Barak-Tor

Members of the Watch,

First, I would like to say that we are going to submit an offer for the property known as Barak-Tor. The offer is in the final stages of development at this time.

Second, I would like it clarified that spellcasting is in fact illegal in Dunwarren. Is that in the ruined area immediately east of Upper Sanctuary? Does it include the area of the Stairs to Dunwarren while combatting the periodic waves of undead gnomes that the Watch pays adventurers to clear out fro them? Or the entire sprawling complex that interconnects many different places around Sanctuary?

Finally, I have unsettling news that I wish to inform the Watch of. It seems that the Stoutheart Mines, formally inhabited by the Grunstubhles was once a home to a tribe of flinds. As you may know, flinds are a more powerful, more intelligent, and thus a more dangrous threat to Sanctuary. These flinds are planning on moving back into the mines, and threatened to kill any whom enter.

Our party was formed by a deep gnome named Treldorn who wishes to have the Blue Mushroom rebuilt. It seems he is still in touch with his people, and it might be possible to resume trade including ores between them and Sanctuary. Others present were Councilor Runehammer, a spellguard Associate named Charles Sennik, a Stoutheart runecaster named Pharnos, Seeker Jeremvar Kowalkski, and myself.

Despite our efforts at diplomacy, the flind informed us that they were indeed returning to "their caves", and that none could enter or even pass through the mines. When the one who deigned speak with us denied us the right to pass to through these mines to go to the Blue Mushroom, which the Stoutheart Clan has legally claimed, battle ensued and we eliminated them in a hard-fought contest.

That these flinds have decided to conquer any who oppose them, and that they wish to live so close to Sanctuary can only be a strong threat to our security. When I suggested that they look elsewhere for a suitable area, their speaker scoffed and stated that these caves were sacred to their people.

Of course, if you have any further questions, I will be available to respond to them by letter or in person.

*Recieved and Forwarded to Lt. Fawkes*

Watchmen,

I would report a lethal encounter with a lich that seems determined to move into the area. With the assistance of Seeker Kowalski and a Stoutheart Faenor name of Cliara Goldenhanded, we followed a suspicioius looking man down into Lower. From there, the Seeker stealthily followed him into tunnels near the Lower Watch House.

We discovered that he was a member of a necromantic cult of some sort, perhaps Velsharoon, and they attacked us immediately on entering their hiding place during what appeared to be a dark ritual.

A vile floating skull was in the room, the same sort as those that attacked citizens when first the lich was discovered. I assume you have reports on this incident, but if not I will be happy to fill you in via letter or questioning.

We then discovered a trap-door that led into a vaulted chamber, where the lich and many of its undead servants also attacked us upon entering. After laying about and destroying many of these, the foul lich slowly advanced, taunting us for our foolishness, and cast a mighty spell of death that forced my soul into Moradin's Hall.

I do not know what happened after that, save the lich seemed pleased with my death as he withdrew and allowed my companions to bring me back to the Grumbarite Hold and recall my spirit to my corporeal shell.
