44/50

44 players and DMs on today at once.

I was pleased.

However, by all means -- continue to spread the word. Most of the time we're still in the 20s or less, and I think EfU will become a much more dynamic and entertaining place as we continue to grow.

i gotta say a big ytmnd to the efu community for keeping it up so far.

im all about it.

Congratulations on this archievement. Now let's all steal players from other servers!

I'll keep spreading the word around.

Ehh....Big numbers are not a good thing in my opinion.

A wave of new players always equals a load of PG'ers and immature kids to come screw what ever good RP is going on.

And is it just me because I perfer smaller numbers. It makes the occuring stories more focused not to mention the players and their characters bond closer together.

Reality Dysfunction seems alot like Reality Devoid. We might mix RD and ArDee up here, heh. But that aside.

I think there ought to be a preferable number; I've played in a server where there were little players online- Result: No roleplay. There's always a way around powergamers; Don't party with them, if you feel they ruin the atmosphere for you. They will eventually leave the server once they have died [snickers @ 3 level loss]. And I believe alot of us started as immature kids; I can remember logging in my characters Saeravok of Bhaal and Aribeth de Tyrmalande, in a big, mature roleplay server; running around all the time, questing for loot, not even knowing the concept of roleplaying, powergaming all the time- And the list of things goes on forever. It is just by the care people showed me that I learned the true spirit of roleplay, and I am now more addicted than every before. I feel, that there were two steps that advanced my roleplaying. Firstly, after the month that I started doing it, and 4 months ago. I felt I 'gained a roleplay-level', and I am now at level 3, going for epic-roleplay levels. =รพ

Seriously, show time and dedication, and the one's that love it, stay. The one's that hate it, go. It's an effort, but it turns out to be a win/win situation for all of us.

No, Reality Dysfunction, this is not the EfU credo.

Treat new players like gold, and you will get what you give. Yes, we will get some powergamers, but that's why we have an administrative body. This server, at least so far, has a large focus on DM interaction, and that tends to weed out players who have no thought of RP whatsoever, in its own way. For every new lamer we get, hopefully we will be getting a bunch of new roleplayers, and that's well worth having a large playerbase. And there's nothing better than entering this server with a bustling player population, it really brings it alive much more than only having 10-20 players scattered throughout the Underdark.

And of course, if you're worried about true griefers, lamers, and looters, those will get tossed out very quickly.

In the past, I have seen large playerbases accomplish very focused and fun story telling, simply because there are always a majority of players committed to this, and I'm sure that will be the case here. I fully understand your concern, but I think you'll find that the maturity of the administrators and current playerbase will be enough to continue this server's excellence.

And I second Coldburn's comment about immature kids, I was definitely one at one point. And maybe even now!

Most assuredly, Thilodius

I agree with the previous pro-new player stance that's already been so eloquently outlined.

Tossing in something different: the forums here are an excellent way to maintain contact with particular PCs. I've seen IC-postings used on this and other (large) servers to very effectively maintain storytelling momentum.

That and its much easier for counsil like RP. People who live from all sorts of different time zones can still attend those important meetings. Its also very organized and easier to follow than IG.

...after all, the function of RPing servers is to turn abnoxious gaming nerds into socially acceptable human beings.

Mind you, i wouldnt mind getting some more of coa's 'flow off' at peak times.

Oh, has the server been advertised on NWN connections and the bioware forums since its full opening ? We could advertise preludes there, especially on the former, for the benefit of new players.
