[a letter for Ambrose, sent to the Chapterhouse]

[A letter is sent for Ambrose Crownguard, to the Society of the Ordered Mind Chapterhouse, Upper Sanctuary] My dearest Ambrose,

after expressing your interest in my political program, I've decided to put it on paper for you. In a random order you'll get the points I work for to make Sanctuary a safer place:

I will increase security in and around Sanctuary. Inside Sanctuary, I will increase defenses around Lower Sanctuary, by erecting better fortifications, and supplying Animatrons to the defense of the Tigereye Mercenary Company. As well, regarding intelligence gatherings, I will sent out scouts to patrol a 10-mile radius of Sanctuary, to notify us of enemy troop-movement. We want to tackle the enemy outside Sanctuary, to prevent the loss of civilians.

I will put the Tigereye Mercenary Company under a stricter leash. I use this term loosely, but I hold the belief that they think themself supreme rulers down in the Lower. They will still be under the contract of Sanctuary, and still hold the same jurisdiction as they do now. However, the Guard and Spellguard of Sanctuary can outrank the orders they give. Even so, each decision made by the Tigereye Mercenary Company needs to be approved by a ranking official of either the Spellguard or the Guard of Sanctuary.

I will improve the quality of life down in Lower Sanctuary. I will get rid of the open sewage system, and I will erect a place where I can house the poor. I will supply decent food and water to those who require it, for a minimal price. Furthermore, I plan on holding regular vaccinations, to prevent disease to spread further, and we may even, ultimately, bannish it out from Sanctuary.

This is a rough outline on my plans. Off course, there are plenty minor details on which I have my thoughts, but I'd like to keep this succint for you. I would rather you keep this letter to yourself, for I fear the Tigereyes would other actively and secretively oppose my election, as well as other enemies I, whose wrath I may invoke.

In trust you will do what is right.

May Oghma grant you Knowledge,

Miss Francesca,

Thank you for sharing your political plans with me – having someone of your wisdom and integrity on the town council would no doubt benefit all of Sanctuary. I do have some comments and proposals of myself as well, and would be pleased if you would take the time to consider them.

You say that you will seek to increase security in lower Sanctuary – I should like to expand on this. Firstly, access to the sewers should be restricted. As things are now it is quite simple to access it through various parts of lower Sanctuary, and we both know how hazardous it can be to venture down there. Rabid vermin, monstrous ratmen and other nefarious characters reign down in the filth, and we would not want our good citizens, the children in particular, to be able to go down there for whatever reasons. The Spellguard should be capable of magically warding the sewer grates in such a manner that only city officials would be able to pass through – if not, some good old chains placed by the Watch would also do the trick, though to a lesser capacity as such locks can no doubt be picked. To further improve security in lower Sanctuary, the number of watchmen down there should of course be increased. I would suggest posting at least two watchmen of high integrity, who would be unlikely to accept bribes and such, within the Pissing Crone – a haven of corruption and shady dealings by all accounts.

As you suggest, the Tigereye Mercenary Company should be put on a tighter leash. I should like to see their role in Sanctuary downplayed, and to have more resources granted to the Watch instead. We should not have to rely on a band of mercenaries for the security of Sanctuary to be assured – the Watch must be granted both more resources and more men to ensure that Sanctuary becomes a truly lawful society. This brings me to another matter – through the grace of Torm I can assure you that Sheriff Eugene Walters is not a man of good intentions, and I very much doubt that he has the best interests of Sanctuary at heart. It is my belief that any further resources granted to the Watch would do little good as long as he is the one in command. As a Paladin I shall always strive to be a champion of justice, but I will have a hard time working in cooperation with the Watch when it’s leader is a man whom I am in fact, by my oaths, unable to work in cooperation with. I realize that it might not be feasible to replace a man in his position without more solid reasons, but it is a matter that should be looked into nonetheless.

Furthermore, the way executions are dealt with are not the ways of a good lawful society. Executions should not be made a spectacle of in such a manner – it does little but instill fear in the citizens and taint their minds with black thoughts. I would suggest that such executions are performed within the keep of the Watch and that the criminals are granted a quick death by more traditional means. I realize that the current system is in fact meant to instill fear in the citizens to make them think twice before committing a crime, and that this does indeed work to some extent, but it is respect of the law, and not fear of the law, that should motivate them as such.

I wish to invite you to our chapterhouse one day, so that we can discuss the future politics regarding the Society of the Ordered Mind. I would prefer that my associate, Durthag Brighthammer, is present at such a meeting as well though, and shall consult with him before setting a date.

As always I look forward to our next meeting.

Respectfully, Ambrose Crownguard

[A letter is sent for Ambrose Crownguard, to the Society of the Ordered Mind Chapterhouse, Upper Sanctuary]

My dearest Ambrose,

I thank you for your reply. I take your compliments, as well as your suggestions and proposals, dear to my heart.

I am both intrested in protecting Sanctuary from in- and outside influences. I was planning on getting restrictions on sewage-acces, both for security matters, as well as hygienic matters. As well did increasing the number of Watchmen, and women, definatly sprung to my mind.

I have several thoughts for the Tigereye Mercenary Company; However, I need the support of the Society of the Ordered Mind in my idea- Preferably yours. I may be making some radical changes regarding their , and perhaps even employment.

Furthermore, I require aid in weeding out the corruption that currently seems to plague Sanctuary. Again, I will assign special commities to seek out, and punish those responsible forthis wave of corruption- Your help may prove invaluable, yet again.

I thank you for informing me about Sheriff Walters, as well; I will start my investigation top-down, once I am a Councillor. I need evidence, though; As much as I trust your word, I can not convict a man based on feelings. It could not be justified in a court of law.

Executions, is a different matter. I fear that I, myself, and assuredly others as well, find them brutal and savage- However, I strongly believe they serve an actual purpose in Sanctuary, and more noteably the Underdark. In a town, where the average time one stays here, does not exceed three months, then we need brutal punishments to instill the fear of commiting a crime- Otherwise, everyone would head little attention to the law. Alas, it is a necessary evil.

I would love to discuss further politics with you, and the esteemed sir Brighthammer, about anything relating to the Society of the Ordered Mind. As well as I would love to see you again, even if it does not involve politics.

In trust you will treat this letter as confidential.

May Oghma grant you Knowledge,
