Kalemvor question.

This is a,.. semi different kind of question. I ask, because my cleric, Morgan C'nedra, is a 6th lvl, almost 7th, cleric of Kalemvor, and I enjoy rollplaying, just the same as everyone else on this server.

In my PnP group, a year or so ago, I was playing my cleric of kalemvor, and in my prayers with Kalemvor one night, I was asking for his aide with a particular difficult battle we were going to be facing the next day. Due to my insane "roll," I was answered by the voice of Kalemvor speaking to me during my prayer.

The DM I had at the time, could have been off with this, which is why I'm asking your opinions. Primarily, I was asking about the one of the new spells that I had access to, "Animate Dead", and why would I be allowed that spell knowledge as a servant of Kalemvor.

He ruled that (as kalemvor), that as the judge of the dead,.. there are souls that committed evil deeds in life, as well as good deeds. When the scales of judgement were unable to be tipped one way or another (they were "even", so to speak, EXTREMELY rare) that they were allowed to choose and aid a servant of Kalemvor, to allow them passage to their diety's plane. Or, they would wander the city of judgement forever.

The "next day", just before the battle, the dm had me pray to kalemvor,.. and call forth the service of one of these spirits to aid me in the battle. I cast animate dead, and called forth a skeletal warrior. He didnt last long, but he did take a few attackers that were meant for me down.

After the battle, i was questioned by the other party members,.. and explained what it was that I called forth, and so on, and all was good.

My question is,... in escape from the underdark,... on an exTREMELY rare occasion,.. would the DM's "kick the butt" of a cleric of Kalemvor, using the spell in this way. On a once or twice period occasion, because how often would ANYONES deeds and worth, be tipped evenly in the scales of judgement.

Animated dead is an evil spell,... but if its IC done in this way, with this explination,... could it not be justified to have it done by a priest of kalemvor once? Its not "really" animating a corpse,.. its calling forth the spirit of a soul that is being judged, to allow them to choose to serve the judge of the dead, when there is no final verdict that can be made.

*scratches his head*

Or was my DM pretty much smoking crack. heh

Please catch a DM IG to apply spellfailure. Animating the dead as a priest of Kelemvor is about one of the things that would anger your patron the most. It's pretty fundamental to what the deity is about.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion. I look forward to emailing my old dm that as well, as he never thought he was wrong about anything. heh

Please read the rules of this forum.

Thanks.

Sorry, didnt realise that I had done anything wrong with my post *shrugs*.

Posted a question if something I wanted to do in game would be out of alignment with my diety in game, got answered, and said thanks for clearing it up to howland.

Logged on, and asked a dm to apply the spell failure as he asked me too.

Was I out of line with the policy for this forum? *is confused*

Your posts are fine! Calavera erroneously posted in this thread, which is against the rules of the "DM Questions & Answers" forum, as listed in the very first announcement post.

Phew,.. thought I made a "no no".

Now, because of the answer howland gave me, I'm actually IG getting to have more fun and expand on what my "spirit of judgement" that i summon forth is, when people ask "what the hell is that?" When I summon forth this ghostly armor clad looking being from my death domain power.

So thanks for the help.
