Letter to Fawkes

Fawkes

You and i have always had an understanding of sorts but your recent acts have soured that.

You state that the 'correspondences' you quoted were given to you by a Stout. This, as you may imagine, was a break of trust, given that nothing in the letters was illegal in anyway and therefore of no business to you or the Watch.

I would ask that you write to me with the names of those 'several' individuals.

I have a feeling that you will refuse and claim that they fear for themselves, or that you don't know who gave you the documents.

We both know that is rubbish.

As you stand for Oghma and the revealing of truths, that i believe is his dogma, you should reveal this 'secret', if it in fact it exists.

Just remember when you threatened to murder me with Baldev Cole at your right hand i stayed quiet and said nothing back in Sanctuary.

Those words could have damaged your reputation, but said nothing.

And i will continue to say nothing because, i believed that you were under pressure at the time, maybe i was wrong but that is what i believed and so i said nothing.

I believe by not saying anything i acted honourably, so i would like the same, so please reveal who the contact was, if in fact they do exist.

Kasin

They do exist, but they did not turn these documents over to me because they are related to the Watch. All I can do is quote the person who gave them to me:

I thought you'd find the attached of interest. The information taken from the Stouthearts. I'd prefer if you kept your source anonymous.

The documents are all I've ever seen from your records, and they were shown to me by a dwarf who was disgusted at the language directed against me. This dwarf fought with me bravely several times in the past.

I will not betray a friend; especially ones who came to me to tell me that those who treated me with respect to my face were vilifying me when they thought no friend of mine was there to hear it and vilifying the city they claim to protect.

As much as you wish to take insult and claim dishonor because your clan's discourteous words and desire to flee Sanctuary were over heard--the fault does not lay with my actions. I suffered only to have to read what you had written when another felt it was necessary for me to do so. Your security is not in danger, neither I nor the Watch have spies in Barak-Tor but we do have friends.

As for the situation with Cole. That was not murder, and I explained that quite carefully. You were endangering Sanctuary by your presence. There was no time to explain to you carefully why that was then and I took every opportunity to explain it afterwards. Bringing it up now as you do makes it sound like you see this knowledge as some threat to be used against me. I assure you, what I did was necessary to protect Sanctuary and I'd do it again if it came to it.

I take my duty to Sanctuary seriously, you will never mind me considering the possibility of fleeing to some new territory the moment Sanctuary isn't safe or welcoming for me. That is the gravest disappointment revealed in the documents I was shown.

As expected, you do not name the individual. Though thankfully via other means i have discovered who it is.

If you read my letter clearly enough i stated with absolute clarity that i would never use the information, it was merely there to show that i have treated you with at least some level of respect.

The language in the letters you saw was colourful, of course, but born from frustration and anger. It was meant for private viewing. Would you be viewed well if every private thought and utterance was there for all to see?

Half the things written were taken back in later correspondence, and as i said were written in the heat of the moment, much like your words to me as Cole stood by you.

Do you really think that we dwarfs are so much worse than the average unattached adventurer, clearly you do?

We have uncertainties and frustrations like any others. But when push has come to shove we have fought those that oppose Sanctuary for far longer than you have been in the Watch and will continue well after you are gone.

Just for clarity we have never said or written that we wish to flee because it is unsafe as you state. The reasons we have expressed frustrations is due to having to deal with people who wish us gone.

Regardless of all this with the reopening of the contract and you as all but Sheriff it seems you will have what you want.

Kasin

PS: If Cohelson is going to talk to his 'contact' in the Stouts, best do it somewhere private next time, easily overheard otherwise.
