Fellow Citizens!

We need wake up and recognize the duty of self-preservation.

Anyone who says: 'I want to flee Sanctuary and head to the surface because the dangers are too extreme” has hereby denied their right to exist here and should be horsewhipped out of town AND TREATED WITH UTTER CONTEMPT!

TO BE A DEFEATIST ARGUES A LACK OF CONVICTION, A LACK OF CHARACTER AND MORAL FIBRE.

The defeatist is indeed ready enough and indeed often does claim the help of others. However for themselves, they often decline to defend others, instead preferring the cowards way of retreat, backsliding, slinking off like curs and whipped dogs with their underwear reeking & soiled.

It is precisely the same with people. A city with people who are not prepared to protect itself is a city & people without strong character and moral fibre. We must recover a sense of strength for ourselves as one of its most elementary principles the recognition of the fact that a person is truly free only if they defend and protect themselves and what they hold dear. Those are a people that deserve that name of Citizen only if in case of necessity it is prepared as a people to enter the ranks.

This is self-preservation.

THEREFORE WE STAND FOR COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE FOR EVERYONE IN THIS CITY.

If the City is not worth that - then away with it!

Therefore, you must not complain if you are enslaved.

But if you believe that you must be free, then you must learn to recognize that no one gives you freedom save only freedom earned by your own sword.

What our people need are not lip service leaders in the council nor certain members of the watch and spellguard who fiddle with their genitals while great dangers abound but those who are determined to carry through what they see to be right before the Gods, before the world, and before their own consciences - and to carry that through, if need be, in the teeth of dragons as did Julian Fryar. And if we succeed in raising such leaders from the body of our people, then around them once again a city and movement will crystallize itself.

It is the pride of our movement to be the force which shall awake Sanctuary of the fighters which yet shall be.

The Balmy Army,

I must say how refreshing it is to hear of stout and strong citizens standing up for the defense of Sanctuary, which many of us are honored to call home. To me, Sanctuary was savior from the gods after many days of wandering the dark abyss that surrounds us. This place is in dire need now more then ever for individuals with strong character and moral fiber to protect those who lack the ability to protect themselves. Freedom is provided only by those to contribute life, service, and commitment with a sword.

Although I may fiddle with my genital's more then I would like to admit, the long nights of patrols and infrequent bathing causes such a response. A response I would gladly do next shift and the shift after that.

P.S. That Watch is in need of strong military minded individuals to serve the city. If you ever tired of organized militias, then see me about enlisting into a formable and capable military force that is the Watch of Sanctuary. If you are ever up for the challenge, see me at the Watch House.

Compulsory Military service is a ridiculous and unwanted concept. I have no desire to impose on the freedoms the people of this City have won, by forcing them into servitude. Those that wish to fight, may fight. Those that will not fight, will hopefully find something useful to do. If every man in the City were fighting the battles, who would be crafting the weapons? Harvesting our food? Building our homes?

People will do as people will do. Sanctuary will get by on the people who believe it to be their calling to fight, something we are rarely in short of. Those who seek the service are not weak, they are hopeful. And hope, no matter whether it is realistic, or unfounded, is important to society.

A City with 10,000 men guarding it and no hope will fair poorly.
