Just my opinion, but I think for items like caltrops/alchemist fire/weaker poison/acid flasks that you can buy in specialty areas, the prices should be decreased. I can understand high prices for choking powder, tanglefoot bags and stronger poison, but for those other one-hit nifty tricks, they don't seem to do too much for the 50GP+ that you pay for them.
Lower Prices
I tend to say that about a lot of one shot items.
They're really neat, and many of them I'd probably buy if they were much less expensive. Not cheaper than scrolls, but not double or triple the price.
Like firebombs, which are essentially really weak fireball scrolls that anyone can use. Yet a fireball scroll is only several hundreds while the firebomb is over 2000.
Even if the item cost the same as an equivalent scroll, it wouldn't be too over powered since you completely control what "spell" is being let out and wizards can't use a firebomb to learn the fireball spell.
Perhaps even doing a single special "alchemist" store with a very low selling price on these kinds of items.
I agree, but I think it'd be even better if we could make them somehow, with components that you have to hunt for. Firebeetle bellies and water for fireflask, and two bellies, rothe feces, a machine part, and a fireflask for a firebomb. (or whatever, you get the idea).
A DIY alchemy kit could be bought for 200 or so and someone could make them just as brewers make potions.
Firebombs/acid bombs recently had their prices increased dramatically from what they were before even (the base price). This is because it's a simple touch attack to hit, the damage is tremendous and (notably) the damage can be criticalled. 70+ damage items are something that won't be cheap.
A lot of quests have monsters dropping trinkets of these kind, and it's probably one of the most common drops I leave around in my quests. One quest in particular is an absolute gold-mine for a lot of this stuff.
Characters I notice using these kinds of gadgets and making it an aspect of their character's fighting style will also find themselves finding more of these things around.
There are some cheaper stores and sources available already, but extremely difficult to find.
If these devices were extemely cheap, every PC would have them or use them. I actually prefer it how it is now, where some characters can distinguish themselves by their resourcefulness and prepardedness and possession of all sorts of tricks up their sleeves to survive in the Underdark.
