Julian Fryar *Posted all over Sanctuary*

People of Sanctuary, too often we allow cynicism, selfishness and distrust to rule our hearts. We see the worst in each other, even when we are all trying to be at our best. It then becomes easy to say to oneself "Why should I care for the problems of others? Sanctuary can fend for itself, I have my own troubles to tend!".

It is at such times we must remember that Sanctuary exists because there is something that stirs in all of us, from the most black hearted pirate to the most noble champion, when some force threatens our freedom. This "something", this spark of the divine, compels us toward camaraderie, toward unity, toward civilization.

Here civilization exists in a place where most would say it is impossible. And it exists because there are always at least a few of us who will rise above our petty selfishness and our distrust. Who will take that spark and hold it, use it to light their way. And who will stand together united and say in one voice "We will not be taken by this eternal darkness!".

Julian Fryar was one of those few. I and 4 others stood with him in his final hour. He stood as a mountain against the fury of the wind, utterly fearless, and completely at peace. He did not fear for his life, his legacy, or his soul. He rejoiced, for he knew he would make Sanctuary safe for all of you. Even for those of you who hated and despised him.

To you, the people of Sanctuary, I leave this gift. His last words. Though he could have bargained with the dragon for his life by handing all of you over as serfs, he stood his ground and fought to his dying breath.

It is at times such as these we must remember... remember Julian Fryar... and remember what heights we might all aspire to:

Etorix ~ You are a short sighted and disagreeable man, Fryar. And the legacy of your rule shall be the denial of the peace and power I could have brought your town!

Julian Fryar ~ The legacy of my rule is that Sanctuary was not handed over to the forces of shadow.

Etorix ~ Will you eat from my table, or shall I begin my first course - you?

Julian Fryar ~ Try it, beast. I die a content man.

Sanctuary exists only because our enemies allow it to exist. They can come and go as they please, taking as many slaves as they want.

It exists only because any farmer knows he should never sell all his flock, so they can multiply again.

This is why it is highly difficult that we'll suffer any other attack so soon, when they all know our defenses cannot hold another.

How many more must be sold so you can realize that?
