Watch Cell times..

Having been arrested twice today, I am think that 40 minutes cell time is a bit excessive.

Didnt it use to be lower than that? I mean.. staying in a cell for 40 minutes is just.. well, brings absolutly nothing?

Especially now since it used to be Fine and you get out, now its both, which might be due to corruption.. but please 40min doing nothing sucks, and doesnt bring much RP.

I remember it to be around like 20min,

Often it can take a bit for the watch member involved to get to the jail. I would hope that when a watchman sends somebody to jail, they go and roleplay with them some, to make the jailtime less onerous.

That said - if the penalty is too harsh, don't get caught, or don't commit crimes.

Second, time depends of the punishment. But true, it's favored that guard goes to RP with the suspect if possible, but sometimes things just get in the way.

I concur. 40 minutes is often very excessive. Watchmen can only arrest for period of 10 or 40 minutes, which I always found ridiculous. I tried to take IC steps even, to rectify it by adding a medium jail time (about 25 minues) but it got shot down by some dirty bureaucrat politician (ICly) as "useless".

*grumbles*

I tend to agree. 10 minutes and 20 minutes seems fair.

Most of the time, I let people out well before their sentence is up just because once I'm done 'roleplaying the arrest' with them so to speak there is still 20 minutes of boring doing nothing left.

Unless of course, the holding cells had prisoners you could interact with. Persuade to sell you cigarettes or to drop the soap or whatever...

I'd be for an arrest time reduction.

I'd also be for "workhouses" where you could be arrested to perform a particular chore (smash x number of boulders to pieces in search of tiny bits of ore, as an example). But that is a little more complicated to script.

Howland I'd be for an arrest time reduction.

Clean the basement. Repair the leaking ceiling.

I’d like to see an alternative to being put into the cells which can be boring for the player involved. I have an alternative punishment to suggest here, namely being put into the stocks (the cage) and letting the citizenry throw stuff (non-lethal) at the condemned.

At the moment the cage in front of the town hall for the capital crimes seems to be hardly used so perhaps the prisoner can be gated into there and thus people could know that the person is guilty of breaking the law and can make up their own mind

I don’t know how much scripting this would need but I believe it’d make for more fun for everyone involved. Perhaps a new NPC could be placed nearby to sell rotten fruit etc to citizens who wish to meet out some justice to the law breakers.

My only complaint is that what if it's a mage or a rogue or someone who can't really 'smash boulders' very well. I suppose that 'cleaning the jail' would be an option. Picking up pieces of trash and then putting them in one of those underutilized-but-highly-cool waste barrels.

I'd like the stocks idea.

Although I think this should be pursued IG, its sounds cool (and let's you RP the whole time). Also, seems like fitting the era(Showing the criminal like an animal).
