I think this has become relevant again now, since MC's officially out and RD's busy. It's virtually impossible to start PvP in a NPC area at these times, and the players logged on at Australian Prime Time have seemed to drop as a result of this.

I think the drop coincided with the beginning of the school semester. The lack of a DM just hasn't helped any.

Not positive, but late night pst is ausie prime time? As a late nighter, I have noticed a drop in DM prescence and player base after 10 pmish pst.

Yes, Australia is roughly 18 hours ahead of PST times.

It's required, I think. There was a good portion of time when things would really be busy during the Australian evenings. Due, in large part, to the fact that we had a couple active DMs at that timeslot.
