How do yo subdue someone without it looking like assault? Nymm, my Watchmen, is an archer, He cannot hit the boradside of a barn with fist nor sword, so he shoots them, I>E> in ways that does not kill them?? Whenever I have to subdue some one for an arest, they always cry assault, pvp, etc ooc and ic. Is there some way I am missing to do this, other then fill them full of arrows in subduel
(this is supposed to be under Oro's Watch thread, can a mod move it please)

what's wrong with assault and letting them cry?
use your wand I guess, if they resist, then cripple them with arrows. *shrugs*

This is something I worried a bit about when I considered playing a Watchman. The only thing I could really think of was to have something like [shoots him with non-lethal force] or [strikes him carefully with the intent to disarm] hotkeyed and click on it whenever you're dealing with a subject. This will keep people nearby from assuming that you're trying to cut a suspect in half.

You could just solely do called shots at the person you're attacking, basically only cutting his arms and legs off.

Shoot them in the legs, then again I suppose you won't be able to do it without the called shot feat.

Unfortunately, it is very popular to cry "brutality" when you are routinely subduing someone. Handle it like you would anything else ^_^

I can understand the IC moaning.. that is fine, if you were getting a beating from the police/watch many characters would do this...
OOC moaning to the guy who plays a watchmen is ridiculous as long as you are in Sanctuary.. its your job!

If people know they are doing something against the law then they should'nt moan OOC at all. And even if your not, it's in the watchmans interest to keep themselves safe by arresting you then questioning you when you are behind a barred door.
If you want to enact non lethal combat, my suggestion would be to use a club to knock them out.

There really isn't anything you can do.
I've tried the emotes of non-lethal force; people still yell at me IC and OOC.
I've tried switching to a blunt rather than bladed weapon; people still yell at me IC and OOC.
The other thing is, yes--you're the Watch and you bloody well can assault some daft bugger who you try to arrest who runs away.
There is some weird strand in the player mind sometimes that the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the liberal-progressive movement of the early 20th century all apply to NWN and the Forgotten Realms.
It doesn't. If you're arrested for a crime, odds are that 99% of people presume you deserved it. There is no "innocent until proven guilty" its more a "all suspects are guilty, otherwise they wouldn't be suspects". If you try to arrest someone peacefully using a tiny wand that non-violently and comfortably moves them into a cell and they resist-I doubt most people will care if you have to knock them silly.
The people who do tend to be PCs. The NPCs for the most part I've noticed tend to presume if you had to whallop someone-you had a good reason.

OOC moaning? This must be new. I'm rather disappointed. :(
But yeah. Who cares? Beat their asses, and clap them in chains. There's no other way to get the arrest once they run.

I really want to see some logs from that, I can't help but feel that they would be hilarious.
That is one thing that I am still very careful with in efU. There is no actual "Freedom of the Press".
But give it time ;)

It depands, many times the character would assume the watch framed another person. You guys should work on your public relations ^^
It really depends on which side of the law you stand. And lately watch members seems to abuse their position.

abusing power is still no reason to bitch OOC about it. COME ON! if I would approve someone to be in the watch, abusing power WOULD probably be the main criteria <_<

They're not abusive, they're just enthusiastic!
And yeah, the 1st Amendment lovers are always a blast to mess with.
Suspect: This- This is against the law! You can't hit me! It's assault!
Watchie: Law? You want LAW?! BITCH! I AM THE LAW *smack*
Or:
Suspect: I know my rights!!!
Watchie: Rights? What rights? *snickers* You don't have rights!
Always fun.

I liked:
"Do you have a warrant for her arrest?"
"What the hells a warrant?"
There is no habeas corpus in the Realms.
Also there is a lot of :
"Why did you arrest me? I didn't break any law in the law book!"
So many people don't realize that a 150 year old city likely has found a way to survive and enforce laws even if they are not one of the dozen or so in the book.
Hammarabi had 144 laws.
Sargon had dozens as well.
Its silly to think Sanctuary limits itself to just a dozen rules. The law book got simplified during the Ubel uprising but I tend to notice there is a conflict between liberal and conservative interpretations of the law book. Some people just don't realize its an IC debate and think its OOC people ignoring how law is interpreted or OOC making up laws that don't exist.

It's all well and good playing a corrupt watchmen, but EFU is still a game. Games are supposed to be fun. It's not fun being arrested for the slightest thing (this isn't an exargeration by the way, I've seen characters arrested for flinching, commenting on "not liking metal armour" and talking too loudly). Be corrupt watchmen if you want, but remember it's still game.

I've never seen that. I have seen corrupt watchmen, but a lot of times players think a watchman is corrupt when honestly the problem is the player is angry about getting their character arrested or in trouble for something that really did merit an arrest. I see that a LOT more.

Responding to an arrest with an IC attitude of there being corrupt Watch is fully encouraged - in fact, if the watch is unpopular among the crazy adventurer population that's a good thing.
Any incidents of OOC whining or issues should be brought to the attention of the DMs.

In any way, I don't see what's so bad about an arrest... Else you killed someone, they're gonna charge you for 50-100 bucks and put you in that playground (jail) with long sticks (bars) and a see-saw for one (guillotine).
All this through a neat teleport spell.
And believe me, it makes the whole deal lot funnier ^^

Don't bother Rping subdual. Just start shooting arrows into the guy. So long as you've told them to let themselves be arrested.
A good idea so that everyone gets a bit of PvP, is to get them top join in! Ask the passers by for help stopping crime( so long as they're PC's, by the way), and reward those who had promise!

Be careful who you ask you join, they might decide to help the suspect >_>

I would say Rping it helps. My first PVP on this server was with a watchmen, when he began knocking large chunks out of my character, I thought he was a gonner. I was releived though when he emoted smacking my character's head open with the blunt end of his sword.

"Accidents" can happen. If someone where to ask "why did you kill him/her?" whats to stop the watchmen saying "It was an accident, if they hadn't resisted arrest, they would be fine."

Nothing really. Which is why a clever man wouldn't do something that let's an "accident" happen in the first place but just go quietly. Its a lot harder to have an accident when you're peacefully arrested and then in a cell being overseen by several NPCs.
