Couple things.

The first time I tried this quest, it let me take it by myself, with no other party members. On subsequent tries it tells me the quest is a minimum party size of 2. I found someone's belongings in the quest area, so that might have something to do with it (someone taking the quest and dying, then logging out).

Also, from something Howland mentioned in the children in the warren's thread about the mary jane boss's possessions being the quest reward: Not sure there's much problem of that here. My level 3 cleric made short work of the end boss on his own, so much so that he found a ton of medicine bags and 10 cure moderates in her possessions.
