*letter from Barak-Tor arrives at Spellguard Tower*

Esteemed members of the Spellguard

We the Stoutheart Clan would like to formally request that the Spellguard assess whether they might be able to clear the area of the blocked stairs in Barak-Tor for us in the interests of stopping the never-ending flood of Chosen that come from some place deep beneath the Platform.

Perhaps the aid of an animitron, or the use of levitation or other creative uses of magic might assist us in this. We would think that destroying or moving some rock would be an easy task for those of such power as yourselves.

Barring that, we request you recommend a possible means to address this problem with vexes us and threatens the safety of Sanctuary.

Clan Stoutheart Council of Elders Thane Rollo Stoneshield

Members of the Spellguard,

We would like to clarify the follow issue. Is spell-casting with or without the application of nightshade in the vicinity of Barak-Tor, also known as the Platform, illegal during battles with the beasts we are contracted by the Watch to prevent from spilling forth into Sanctuary?

What of the use of divine healing magics at the top of the steps down to Barak-Tor? If a Stout were driven up the stairs by Chosen Warriors, and he used divine blessings to recuperate before heading back into the fray, would this be considered illegal?

My thanks to your answer to this query.

Thane Rollo Stoneshield

Thane Rollo Stoneshield,

The laws of Sanctuary apply just the same to Barak-Tor. Therefore, spellcasting with and without Abjurer's Nightshade is illegal in Barak-Tor. The use of divine healing magics are also illegal, unless done in warded areas. Stouts can just as easily recuperate in nearby buildings.

If I recall correctly, I've received reports of illegal spellcasting within Barak-Tor in the past. I wouldn't want to have to revoke your property contract for repeated crimes. While you may own Barak-Tor, you are not an exception to any law of the city, unless stated otherwise by the Council or Spellguard.

Additionally, I believe the city hired you to clear Barak-Tor of the Chosen. You signed up for the task, so you obviously are knowledgeable and prepared for this task. I'm sure you can take care of the problem yourself, because if I have to come down to solve the problem, you would not be fulfilling your contract.

Field Officer Ferrington,

We thank you for your response in this matter. Are we to understand that offensive arcane or divine magics can not be used in combat against multiple Chosen casters hurling countless spells?

Your insinuation that we might think that we are above Sanctuary Law is unfounded. I personally am not aware of any recent illegal spellcasting, and since I was fined for doing so, I have worked hard to inform my kinsman of the Law pertaining to these matters. Perhaps you are not aware that Operative Miller did finally complete the warding process a few short months after we had applied for this safeguard in our war against the Chosen?

For purposes of clarification, the Post House itself and the cavern complex below is termed Barak-Tor, and is our Clanhome. As it is warded and has been warded for several weeks now, it is my understanding that it is impossible to cast illegally in the warded areas.

We are quite bewildered at your threats to revoke our contract due to vague references to illegal casting or an inability to combat the Chosen. Do you have specific instances to which you refer? Or do you merely wish to remind us that we serve Sanctuary at the whim of any ranking member of the Spellguard and Watch?

Field Officer, I am surprised that a citizen requesting information in a sincere effort to abide by the law is responded to with threats and what appears to be thinly-veiled scorn, particularly since we have had the previous opportunity to meet amicably.

Thane Rollo Stoneshield

Thane Rollo Stoneshield,

We hired you to do your job. I'm not interested in excuses, especially when the city has more important matters at hand than to kill a few Chosen.
