During a period of insomnia, Duran took the time to stop reading his favorite book of the moment "Memoirs of a Succubus" to start writing a brief remembrance of his past and arrival to Sanctuary.
Within the confound of room IV-b at the Rock Bottom Inn, I do not think I could have sank any lower. It hardly matters now, I know where my soul is going, I know what I will become - and I am fully aware that if I do not do anything to change that, I will end up being some larvae on a Night Hag's diet.
Enigmatic as it sounds, Redemption is the only path for me.
A few lines are scratch out, and a new paragraph starts as abruptly as the other one had ended.

A knock on the door disturbs him, he quickly notice that he was thinking aloud, and hurriedly hides his journal, while continuing his readings.

Pondering what t do with his freetime, Duran decided to continue his rather short but expressive biography.
Social advancement... Social advancement.. Ah yes, I am here because of this. You see, human traditions are such that we are creatures of such incredible greed that instead of sharing our belongings with the rest of the populace at a moment of death, we invented "contracts" or testament if you will, so that our properties (physical objects have no claim of ownership except in our mental personae) stays within our lineage, so that our reputation, our blood stays with our name and generation for the rest of our lineage's future.
And such, that within a city such as Calimshan, the only way for a lesser family to seek advancement is to "marry" or enjoint a blood bondage with an upper family.
However, to add another layer of control, only female are allowed to do this social leap. A necessary precaution since female usually have less ambitions than their male counterparts, in a probabilistic way, of course.
And so, the only way to "better" yourself is to lie.
Ah, Social advancement..
The rest of the page trails off, as the author continues to scribble a few examples of this sad fate, before moving unto the next chapter.
