looting from dead pcs

Quite a "hot topic" but i just experienced it when my char died and i am not complaining of being looted if this is part of an IC plots, however, i just think this is really to easy to pick the gold of your fallen comrade and just walks off without rolling any bluff/(or whatever check suited in that case...). And this even sucks more when you get looted by the members of your party; and when you decide to respawn and raises up on your legs " hell where is my gold?", then none answers or says "i haven't seen anything..." I think we all should ask ourselves in such situation: if i really want to loot a member of my party who fell, i should be ready to play it IC with the adequate rollings as a consequences, otherwise i'd say this is clearly an abuse. I am sure the DMs are aware of it and thank to them they re doing nice work in such cases, but when no DM was on i often faced this situation, so people just think and have fun!

If you think someone stole your shit, beat them down and check for sure.

Always A good solution :P

If someone loots you, beat them down and show them how it feels.

Looting a body on a quest while someone is respawning is a bit iffy, since they'll probably sense somthing amiss when they wake up finding a party member with their hands in his pockets. If I get looted without -any- Rp to show for it, I would be more than a little annoyed.

If I see looting like this and either lots of items were taken, or large items were taken (large sums of gold included) I will emote that fact over the thieves head. Be forewarned that stealing is fine if in character, preferably with RP involved, but if I see a lack of any of this I will call you out if seen and I think it is appropriate to do so.

MadCaddies If you think someone stole your shit, beat them down and check for sure.

This would only be somewhat possible if you didn't Fugue. If you did you're screwed. You just lost about 5 levels because of XP loss (seriously 1-2 levels). Your also at 1 hp, especially if they stole your healing. Who exactly are you going to force to give the stuff back?

If the party was lame enough to not RP stealing your stuff, then there is no way they are going to RP pretending that they couldn't send you right back to the servant of Kelemvor. Basically, I don't think that threats will work whether you are IC sure they robbed you or not. At the same time, that's the reality of the situation. You were just killed and now you're too weak to confront them, which is a situation they are (in some cases) appropriately taking advantage of.

If you are IC convinced of it, then you could just wait until you regain your strength (perhaps many days and regained levels later) and then repay them in kind: IF that would be something your character would do. I'm not advocating some kind of griefing vendetta.

I had a char that would've waited till later, then jumped each and every party member one-by-one until reimbursed. Actually, if no one fessed up to anything, he'd probably make a point of killing them all. Just issuing OOC and IC warnings about this happening could loosen people's lips quite effectively. Don't act angry in the OOC part of it, just state that your char will most likely hunt down and kill the other party members later. You might be surprised how quickly you find out what really happened. Of course, if your char is nice/good, this really isn't an option.

Issuing OOC warnings in the hopes of influencing IC actions isn't really appropriate.

I meant for when the thieving is obviously OOC or out-of-bounds already. A properly RP'd robbery should of course be dealt with IC. Sorry, I should've been more clear.

Don't let things degenerate. I would much rather see a message pop up on the DM line asking for some supervision on the whole thing rather than having things devolve quickly into an OOC spamfest about rules and stuff between players.

If it looks like a foul thing has happened, let us know. Take screenshots, get the persons login name, and notify a DM so we can deal with it.

A character of mine relieved some joker of his cash purse and a few items in a vivid and confusing combat scene with spell effects going off left and right and citizens and hostiles engaging here and there. Noise was profound, I was invisible and the joker was dead. I didn't take time to roll bluff checks. I wouldn't want to, either.

If the party I was questing with saw fit to "loot" my PC when they knew I had full intentions of a raise/respawning. I think it is safe ground to Subdue and take compensation. Perhaps even FD given some PC's nature.

I get mad when PC's loot during a dm event, look, you don't loot a person who is dead, but when there is a army of Orogs out there, While your charctor may be an oppurtunist, Why should he risk his ass on a wall where the Orog sorcerors are aiming at?

Oh, please. Haven't you ever watched Indiana Jones? He does that kind of stuff all the time.

OOC, if I find that my body was looted while I was in the fugue, I gently remind everyone via party chat that if they see messages in their dialogue box about items being taken from me, they're allowed to address it IC (but that they don't have to -- only if it's IC for them.)

IC, I hoot and holler and cuss out everyone with colorful insults, mope around, become a miserable pain-in-the-butt party member, and my character will hold grudges against everyone in the party from that day onward. But that's just Jacky...

(Actually, other than the moping part, she pretty much does the rest of it all the time anyway)
