To Fawkes, RE: Reconnaissance

Lieutenant Fawkes,

I was told by one of your officers that you are currently in the process of creating a reconnaissance unit for the Watch. It is with this note that I'd like to express my interest in a collaboration with such a group. However, personal beliefs and matters of faith dictate that I remain unbound, and would not be able to fully offer my services at certain times. (Perhaps you know of the Elven deity Fenmarel? If so, that should explain things).

I prefer to remain a free operative, but that does not mean I'd be of no use to your group. The choice, however, is yours.

My name is Otineiros, and even though I had not the chance of introducing myself, we have met. I was the explorer clad in dark clothing you met in the mines but a few darks ago.

- O.

Perhaps you can explain how you wish to be of use? The group I am forming is specifically composed of Watchmen who will be duty bound first and foremost to Sanctuary and its preservation. As you said, your faith will conflict with this.

I do hire and pay adventurers who bring me information on topics I specifically assign them to investigate. Perhaps you are more interested in a more mercenary application of your talents.

Lieutenant Fawkes

Lieutenant Fawkes,

Thank you for the quick reply. Indeed, the suggestion you made in the latter part of your letter is something more suited for one such as I.

I should let you know that I have seen your notice about the werewolf attacks that have occured in the mines. During the recent darks, I have been walking their lenghts, searching for any indication of the presence of such a creature. Thus far, I've found nothing, but I was going to contact you had the creature returned to what seems to be its hunting grounds. Perhaps I should continue with this? If so, any information you could give me about these attacks that is known to the Watch would be most helpful.

Otherwise, I'd be interested in other assignments you may have for someone with skills such as mine. I am a tracker and a scout, an aspiring explorer, as well.

Additionally, I am able to keep an eye on folks that would, for some reason or another, need to be watched.

-O.

I can give you more details about the werewolves. It is something I've had a few agents look into already.

Expect greater detail in a forthcoming letter. Contact me again if I fail to provide this in three days time.

Lieutenant Fawkes

Lieutenant Fawkes,

While searching for clues about the whereabouts of the duergar Gram "Fathand" Grunstubhle, I witnessed some manner of lycanthrope attacking a human man in the mines. This occured near the foundry entrance.

The man killed the lycanthrope and made his way to Sanctuary.

However, I do not believe the lycanthrope was a Werewolf. On the other hand, one could easily mistake it for one. I believe this was a Werecat.

This brings me to my questions. Would it be possible that this creature was solely responsible for the attacks? Are there reasons to believe there are several such creatures, werewolf or otherwise, using the mines as their hunting grounds?

As I mentioned in the start of this letter, I am on the look out for the Duergar banker that conveniently forgot to leave Sanctuary's gold behind as he left. I take it that's why he is sought? I did not do buisness with him, but I can help finding him. All I require is some information to get me started. Should you be able to provide some, that would be appreciated.

-O.

Describe the man who killed the werecat. These attacks were conducted by a werewolf and this is a separate incident although one I'd like to hear more information about.

Grahm Fathand is most likely in a deurgar settlement somewhere near the Dark Lake.

Lieutenant Fawkes

Lieutenant Fawkes,

I followed the man back to town, and I did get a good look at him. I've often seen him in the area near the Rock Bottom.

He is more than 6 feet tall. He wears a blue cloak. His heavy armor is missing the upper arm protection on both sides. He has messy, dark-brown hair. His armor is of a blueish light-grey color. I believe his helmet is of a blue color, but I'm not sure.

I think it is in both our interests if we do not reveal our sources; I'd prefer we keep this exchange of information a secret. I hope that is understandable; it's simply easier to operate for one such as I if my profession is not known to the majority.

Thank you.

-O.
