A letter marked for Rollo, left at Barak-Tor

I would like to file a complaint regarding the Deputy Rollo, a dwarf who make threats of jailing, fining and stoning to a man who does not give his last name upon unbased accusations of stealing, upon an incident at the staircase located in the ruins of Dunwarren.

Thane and Deputy,

I'd like a full account of the events here, as quickly as you can manage.

Sergeant Sannen

* a letter promptly makes its way to the Watch House*

Sergeant,

I awoke in Barak-Tor and none of my kin were about, so I checked the usual places. After having looked in the Bazaar, in and around the Rock Bottom, the steps of the Town Hall, and finally the oft-besieged Steps in Dunwarren, I found my kin assembled in a rescue party. The Stouthearts are looking to help the Watch whenever possible, and my kin can be found there not infrequently helping Private Karrows patrol the area.

I discovered that a group trying to patrol the area had been unexpectedly attacked by powerful Chosen who seemed able to brave the magical wards at will, even luring my kin in the rescue party to a trap that slew two by fire and bolts of electricity.

In short, many were slain despite the best efforts of myself and other good citizens. The waves of undead svirfneblin and chosen warriors seemed never ending, yet I went back not once but twice invisibly to attempt to rescue my kin and others there.

Fortunately the enemy had retreated after they realized that a sizable force was gathering to drive them out. I brought back the bodies of two of my Stouthearts with great difficulty, as well as their possessions. However, no coin was found on either which I found odd as I knew that both were hard-working Stouts and contributed often to the Clan Donation Box.

A man named Jericho, likely a scout, privately informed me that two individuals were looting the possessions of those who had fallen. One of the men had dark, shoulder-length hair and was unhelmed. I approached him, stated my name and position as a deputy of the Watch, and asked for his name. After several polite requests which he ignored, he finally said only Adrian, which I knew not as his first or last. When I asked for his last name, he refused and stated that he did not care who I was and that he would not give it.

I then warned him that he had been accused of stealing from the fallen, and that if I did not get his name that I would report him and he'd likely be arrested. Finally he gave his last name as Luna, and foolishly haranged me about making accusations without evidence. I tried to inform him that I was not making any such claim, only that another had stated so and that I required his name for the report.

This man then taunted my slain kinsman by insulting them and the Stoutheart Clan during this, a time of grief when they had so valiantly given their lives to save the fallen from the initial patrol.

I must admit that I finally struck the man square in the chest with a gauntleted hand, quite knocking him back and the breath from his lungs. Likely a bruise as well, but a larger on his ego I'll wager.

This coward then responds by drawing his sword and slashing at my uncovered head. Had I not ducked, it would have been a crippling blow, but I yet bear a fine scar just over my left ear where it sliced open a small furrow by the sharp tip of his blade. I struck back with a firm jab to his jaw, and then retreated several steps after I had stunned him so.

I then, in a most heated tone I assume, informed the man that drawing a weapon in anger and attempting to cause injury to another was a serious crime, likely resulting in a trial. I also stated that he could be exiled or stoned, as that is what the law clearly states.

Sergeant, I admit that I should not have lost my temper and struck this buffoon with my bare hands. However, the report of his thievery in such a trying time, his disrespectful refusal to recognize my authority, and his determination to impede a lawful investigation while my slain kin lay at my feet was more than one could bear.

If a Watchman were to ask a known suspects' name and were openly mocked and refused to answer their questions, would they not be able to subdue the knave and jail them as they deemed necessary? I will regrettably turn in my badge, helm and club if I am to be treated such and taunted without having the legal authority to do naught of it.

And if there is a fine or jail time because it is determined that defending the honor of valiant warriors slain in defense is illegal, then it seems that Dwarven Law conflicts with the laws of men and I will have to consult the Soul Forger on the true and proper direction of the Stoutheart Clan.

*Six Chosen severed heads are left piled neatly near the stair case*

*a little while later, another half dozen heads join the others along with five beholderkin and with a grubby, bloodstained note*

------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eliant 12,

IN several different sorties, the Stoutheart Clan repelled several waves of Chosen and Beholder Kin, including a Chosen mage that snuck up on us while we were in moot.

This underscores the need for security in the lower portions of the Hold of Barak-Tor.

I have assigned Runemaster Frors Boulderlock the task.

----------------------------------------------------------- Eliant 15,

The day, the glorious day Saher Mumford was caught and slaughted by the Doomsayers...

Rollo, Kimli, Gimball, Cronus, Stoutheart Friend Tydus, and myself, Mydur battled and defeated five chosen ripping the wings from their backs. These chosen were only steps from the stairs leading to Upper Sanctuary. In addition, six bats and one dire bat were slain during this occurance.

Later on this very same day...

Rollo, Baltizar, Granite, Kivna, Hrothgar, and myself, Mydur battled and destroyed with success six eyeballs. In addition one undead eyeball was killed as well as two bats one of which was a dire bat. These abominations were in the same location as the flying chosen defeated earlier that day.

The total on this occasion was five flying chosen, six eyeballs, one undead eyeball, eight bats, and two dire bats.

ChoFly-5, Eye-6, UnEye-1, Bat-8, DireBat-2.

Mydur.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Eliant 15,

I myself went down to make a donation and ran across a large group of bats more than ten of them not including the three of them that where Dire Bats, With Ilmaters help I killed all of them before perfroming a quick scouting of the area. I found no more creatures outside.

*added in Rollo's hand*

Gloinar Runehammer

---------------------------------------------- Eliant 19,

I knocked off a couple of ratfeckbastard mage thingies today.

Now, I's be thinking...we're racking up quite a decent body count here. So much so that given a bit more time, I be thinking that we'll be able to walk down to the bottom because the chasm will be FULL of dead bodies of all them buggers we've slaughtered!

I always wanted a mountain of skulls in front of me house...

sorta says something don't it?

-------------------------------------------------------- Eliant 21,

Patrol completed - two Flying Chosen Warriors defeated by my own hand.

With the blessings of Berronar, I was able to overcome two of the vile Rat beast warriors, though it was a long and hard fought battle.

Thane Rollo Stoneshield

----------------------------------------------------------- Eliant 21,

On this day, I encountered a swarm of the ratfeckbastards.

At first I thought I was only fighting 3, 2 warriors and one of their spellflingers but then I got jumped buy 4 more. I took the first three down but I was being clawed to bits by the sheer numbers, so I made a dash for the stairs up. Thank the Allfather that the Private was on the ball and we took down another four warriors. Then Frors showed up and together he and I went back down to finish off the remaining ones. Here is where we found yet 3 more, 2 warriors and another spellcaster. Frors tackled the spellchucker and they went at it hammer & tongs and he downed it but the spell caster flung some new magic as it was dying of the likes I'd not seen before and dam near killed Frors with this magic, almost drained the life right out of him. I managed to fire off a potent cure spell to save Frors' life while still being clawed at by the warriors and a number of small bats. Frors managed to stagger off while I killed the bats and warrior. Then once Frors got himself together, we went after the last warrior who was cowering in the far corner.

But there was more...

Once we'd dealt with the last one, we noticed some largish rats scurrying about behind the stairs. These rats, when approached, emitted some sort of psionic rays, trying to addle our wits or worse. Frors and I killed them all fairly quickly but I wanted you all to know that this is something new. Frors thinks these rats are Squidy-Face pets of some sort.

Anyhow...bodycount

Warriors = 8 Spellcasters = 2 Bats = 6 I think? Brain Rats = 5 I believe

Sorry this is not quite accurate but we were in a tight spot at the time and getting an accurate tally wasn't paramount, rather killing the feckin' enemy was the immediate concern! Also, be VERY careful around the spellcasters now...they've nasty new death magic it seems.

War Chief Thule

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eliant 25

Sonnlinor Thule and myself dispatched two flying warrior Chosen, as well as four undead Beholderkin of moderate size.

Thane Rollo Stoneshield

-------------------------------------------------------

Eliant 29

On this day, I dispatched two warrior chosen who seemed to be quite near the stairs up.

Thane Rollo Stoneshield

Thus endeth the Stoutheart Patrol Log of Eliant, 151.
