Player Tools: Emote wand/Autofollow widget

Greetings and congrats to a nice world. I have had good fun on two extended playing sessions on your server.

As a suggestion I would like to quickly draw your attention to two very useful player tools for friendly neighbourhoud RPing in case you do not know them:

1. Emote Wand (or Quartz, or Gem, or whatever): A tool that allows to play the standard emotions, like sitting, praying, lying on the floor, etc. (The emotes via the radial menu are very uncomfortable, as they only last very short.)

2. Autofollow-widget OnUsed you click a target, and the PC follows that target automatically. (Great for extended walks and travels - this way it is much easier to type and walk at the same time. At least for the/those one(s) that are auto-following another

Cheers,

Here's a little something more helpful. It's a feature I absolutely love:

https://efupw.com/efu1-forum/topic/48/489/suggestion-chat-text-commands/index.html

We have an emote menu but its not a wand, use your crafting menu and you'll see it.

But I'd seriously consider learning all about this feature: https://efupw.com/efu1-forum/topic/48/489/suggestion-chat-text-commands/index.html

It's the best. It's way more swift, and permanent as well. Besides, it doesn't count as an action, which it does at the Crafting Skill Menu. In the following case scenario, you can't "emote" in battle with the Crafting Skills, but you can with the /o commands.

Lots of useful features in the crafting menu (including lots of different emotes as well subdual/full damage/sparring and other modes). Additionally, we have a system in which packets are scanned as they enter the server to pick out commands. Those commands are still being worked on and added, but eventually we'll have a full list available.

Some examples, all of which can have "/o" in front to make it so others don't see the command:

*roll strength check* *sits down*

You can even talk through your summoned companion, and there's an auto-follow command too (don't remember what command that is).

Could you guys put them all out somewhere where others can see them easily. I'm so confused with all the commands since I don't know all of them.

People, please check the link I provided twice!

For those lazy enough to click on the link:

Arkov I've been experimenting with a mechanism to hook extra features onto the "self-tell" ability of NWN, using a heavily-modified version of the Talus Listener system. For example:
Speaking through an Associate You can use the following commands to "speak" through an animal companion, dominated monster, familiar, henchman, or summon. Each must be prefixed with "/o", followed by a single letter that identifies which creature to speak through, and finally a message to have that creature speak.

      /o a <message> = Animal Companion /o d <message> = Dominated Monster /o f <message> = Familiar /o h <message> = Henchman /o s <message> = Summoned Creature
That particular feature should already be working, if you're interested in testing it out. I've been considering adding similar commands to allow fine control over, for example...
  • Polymorph, Shapechange, and Wildshape custom form selection.
  • Selective removal of buffs (like Invisibility and Stoneskin).
  • Auto-following a particular PC.
  • Tracking (perhaps even a more sophisticated tracking system in which you could follow particular tracks?).
  • Changing Subdual Mode.
One of the major benefits of this system, should it prove viable, would be that these functions could be used without having to bother with going through conversations, could be used in combat, and could be attached to the Quickbar as custom macros. The use of chat text, rather than conversation options, permits much simpler access to complex control mechanisms (not needing to bother with menus or "cycling" when selecting a Wildshape form, for example). A notable disadvantage is that whenever you use one of these commands, you get the command as a tell to yourself. This, unfortunately, is unavoidable (as far as I'm aware), as it is an intrinsic part of the "/o" self-tell.

I'm interested in ideas about other things that such a system could do, thoughts on whether or not this is a good approach, and feedback on the existing functionality.

Here you go.

I'll be coming up with a more complete reference very soon now. The reason that I haven't done so yet is that I've been working on revising the format of a couple of the commands, and I didn't want to confuse anybody by repeatedly having to change the documentation.

Hopefully I can get a revised version up by later tonight.

And welcome, S_Cat! :)

I totally skipped out on that part! Welcome S_Cat. :P

Doh. I found it on the crafting menu. Very crafty...

That Talus-Listener system looks very neat! And since it will (hopefully) ultimately allow auto-following another my post above can probably in all safety be considered to be of zero-value.

Thanks for the replies and the patience!

On a similar note, you can't use the crafting radial during combat. I find that a little bit annoying. Especially if I want to do some RPing of collapsing while some of my party is still trying to break a door down.

An interesting loophole in the regular emote radial: If you don't want to break stealth or search mode, or are just to lazy to bring up the craft menu, here's what you do. Open your inventory, then open the emote radial. Choose whichever emote you want to do, and click on it normally. At the peak of the emote, move an object in your inventory (any object from anywhere to anywhere) and the emote will stay. So, if you pick the "sit down" emote and move something in your inventory, the character stays there indefinitely, until you click on the ground or an object or move with the WASD. I've found this trick to work with sitting, falling prone (you have to time the inventory trick just right, right as the character hits the ground), praying, begging, and threatening. I've found reading, drinking, saluting/lookfar, and waving difficult or impossible to do, but I should try them all more thuroughly some time. Another trick nice for RP that I notice some people don't utilize: When you are sitting as per an emote, or laying down, or any other continuous action, just click on your avatar and it will cancel the emote. Sometimes people move to cancel the emote, and it looks awkward when they move, then make the stand up animation after already moving. A similar effect is clicking the box with the star in it in the top left corner of your screen when you're sitting on a useable stool or chair. Doing this cancels the action and makes the character stand with minimal animation glitches.
