Richard,
I am sorry I didn't reply immediately, recent events have taken much of my time and attention. Here is a copy of a text published by Sovrias Doven in year 91 of Sanctuary that explains the Ilmateri faith well:
The Holy Axiology of the Crying Godby Sovrias Doven in the 91st of our Years
Faithful Brother and Grand Ostiarius of the Silver Brotherhood of Ilmater
And lo, the Eternal Bearer of Woe hath given down the precepts of his faith, that we may more readily take the pains of the suffering world upon our shoulders, and do our part in ending the torments of life.
One must help all who hurt, no matter who they are. Friend or foe, it makes no matter: all who suffer are within our purview.
The truly holy take on the suffering of others. One must not suffer needlessly, nor fabricate new woes to endure, but rather with grim determination bear the ready woes of the world, the suffering of others, upon one's shoulders.
If you suffer in his name, Ilmater is there to support you. Faith shall not go unnoticed, you who walk this most difficult of paths. You shall bear the suffering of others, and support them in their times of need, and so shall the Crying God bear your suffering in turn.
Stick to your cause if it is right, whatever the pain or peril. Solemn dedication shall prevail, and fortitude in the face of agony shall see you through your duties.
There is no shame in a meaningful death. Death is the natural end, and in death one's woes are lifted from their shoulders, and peace comes upon the weary soul. All shall come out of their misery in time, and pass beyond the woe and pains of life.
Stand up to all tyrants, and allow no injustice to go unchallenged. A just and holy ruler must be both merciful and dutiful, where a cruel tyrant lacks the mercy to bear another's suffering, and the inconstant master permits terrible injustice to come to pass merely by staying his hand.
Emphasize the spiritual nature of life over the existence of the material body. Our material form is just a shell for the spirit and the mind, and woe and weakness come from our attachment to this fragile thing. Distance oneself from the body, and know that only the mind, the spirit, the soul truly is, and that all else is naught, and you have taken the first step to enlightenment.
Thus is the dogma of the Broken Lord, handed down from generation to generation for years uncounted since the dawn of time and the birth of mercy.
If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to speak with you in person.
Ilmater bless,
- Councilor Fryar
