A letter to the enclave addressed to Agent Delgado

Agent Delgado, I am sorry we did not have time to discuss this earlier, but without further delay, I present to you the information gathered about the Lizardfolk and the blade:

First and foremost, there are two blades, not one. Originally, I had though the blade Rastian was after, the scimitar, was the only one. That weapon instead appears to be the greater of a twin set. Rastian had a considerable amount to say about this scimitar, but nearly nothing to say when I inquired about the other blade.

The only fact I gathered about both blades is that they were both originally constructed by the hands of the Drow. Unfortunately, the history of the scimitar jumps from there, and I am uncertain whether that is because Rastian purposely left holes in the story, or if there really nothing to know about it.

Somewhere along the line, this scimitar, or perhaps both blades, was acquired by a member of the Lizardfolk who sought to relinquish his kinship and betray his own kind. In a ritual to the Ooze god – at which Rastian specifically stated is the same Primordial that Mandarin customs himself to – wrath, disease, and plague were imbued upon the blade. This betrayer took it against all of his kind, slaughtering every male and every female, leaving only the children to endure the city’s pestilence.

Rastian believes this scimitar still remains in the city. I would say so myself, taking into account the lingering illness still found among the Lizardfolk. Removing it could potentially put an end to the disease out right, but I doubt we would be that fortunate. It also leaves the problem of how to handle the blade afterwards: bringing it to the Sanctuary may not be wise until more is known about its powers.

Regardless, I recommend that the locations of these blades be discovered as soon as possible, and the first person to ask will be Rastian. Even though he said this much about the scimitar, he refused to tell me any information about the lesser of the two blades. However, he did reveal that he knows where it is and who is holding it. I could not press the matter because I was in no position to do so.

I am sure you will find answers with him.

Below the signature a small line is fit in at the bottom of the page

Cog has informed me he will be finished soon.

Another smaller letter is sent a few hours later

I apologize for this second sending, but some possibly important information completely slipped my mind when I sent you the letter earlier.

Rastian did indeed refuse to give out any information about the lesser of the two blades, but prior to that, I had acquired some information from a different source. Associate Dimitri was with me during the eventful raid to the island of the Lizardfolk, and we discussed the matter and events afterwards. He believes he may know the one who carries this sword: A man by the name of Heretan recently fought and won a set of arena duels, winning a prize axe. The Associate has reason to believe Heretan keeps this sword hidden for the most part, so he will likely be recognizable with this axe he won.

I will be keeping a look out for this man for questioning.

And something you might like to know. On multiple occasions I have caught Tobias Breen, a robed man, looking for aid in acquiring different animal samples. Most recently, it was bats -- Just so that you are aware.

Benito,

A trip to the shores of the Ssal’teesh has presented me with some surprising information, contradicting the entire story of Betrayer legend and the existence of these two blades I have spoken of.

Unfortunately, more death was brought to the tribe on our arrival until we were able to find one willing to speak. When questioning this one however, it was obvious he was awe stricken when I mentioned the story of the Betrayer and the blade that brought disease to his kind. With a manner of certainty in his voice, he explained the disease simply originated from the water they drink.

This is quite a surprise to me, and I am sure it will be to you as well. Taking the initiative on matter, I collected two samples of water from both a standing pool and a stream originating from inside their complex. Once the lab is finally prepared, examining these samples will be a top priority. It will be easy to determine the concentration of contamination, if any, found within these samples, but of course this will not reveal the source of the disease – It will at least confirm if the water could be causing the plague. However, I have been given a third vial of brackish solution by Zerelde of the Tigereyes. She has told me that examining it, and especially comparing it to my two samples, may lead to some conclusive results, so I will be taking it into consideration. She did not explain where this sample came from, but instead has assured me that if I do find anything significant after analyzing these samples, she will show me something relative to the situation. That, after all, is the way the Tigereyes tend to function.

I would also like to take the time to comment on Associate Jabal’s performance. It was, for lack of a better set of words, most undesirable during the second expedition to the Lizardfolk. His hostile actions and violent mouth were the primary reason I could gather more information from the one we spoke with. Also, on other occasions, he has proven to very confrontational with others, including myself. If it has not been done already, I would suggest a reevaluation of the Associate’s eligibility for a position within the Spellguard, because as of now, he does not possess the majesty of an effective Associate.
