Bleeding to death, an essay in the sublime.

So I find myself bleeding to death in the Underdark, a gnoll standing above me as my life blood ebbs out into a pool.

At first I'm afraid, he'll finish me off-maybe torture me. Yet he doesn't, and I find myself grateful for this brief respite of mercy; unsure of what it may mean though.

As time goes by, my blood trickles out. I can taste it in my mouth, pooling beneath me. Clearly the gnoll just wishes for me to waste away slowly for its own perverse entertainment.

Ten minutes go by with this strange torture. Finally though, my own blood clots. I thank the gods because now at least my own body isn't about to betray me to death, but I'm too weak to move.

Ten minutes later, the status-quo still holds.

I hit Alt-Enter, the sacred ritual that allows me to transfer my vision to a new world. I come online and discuss things astrally with people in the IRC realm waiting for my body to expire.

Ten minutes after that, I go make dinner. Its pretty good, some soup and bread--nothing special but very nourishing. After dinner, I return to see that I'm still laying in a pool of my own blood, but alive. The gnoll still over my nearly lifeless corpse.

Finding a sudden urge to see the "I'm not dead yet skit" in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I put that movie in and watch it. Afterwards, I return to see I'm still not bleeding to death and the gnoll is still standing over me.

I decide to read a small book to pass the time. War and Peace is interesting.

I check my screen, and I'm still bleeding to death but the gnoll has snorted and wandered off. It was clearly bored, for it only walks five feet before it drops over dead from the boredom.

I figure I could use a shower, my gamer self has been on a bender all week. I'm a little ripe. I may have bled to death by the time I return.

Nope, still stabalized.

Finally, salvation. A group of adventurers have come to my rescue. I *gurgle* softly, and they save my life. My adventures will continue.

*claps*

*laughs tears in her eyes*

Oro and I also exchanged pictures of our latest trip to Disney World between him watching Monty Python and reading that book.

There was a cute picture of us going down splash mountain together! ^.^
