If you simply like to play preludes, are you allowed to participate in them, and then just never touch the character again when they're done? If not, then not even when you give valid IC reasons for the character to not appear afterwards?

Long term characters get preference when there are limited spots, but a lot of characters aren't used after preludes. In fact, in the past I've had people let me know that a character won't last beyond a prelude, letting me know that it's ok to use them for a dramatic death to give a better story for others.
