High Level PCs

I was looking at the player list recently and it struck me how only 3 players on the server were under 6th level at the moment. I have to say, I liked the server alot more when level 8 seemed unreachable. It made the server much more exciting and I felt good when I got my character to level 8 (although he died soon after) and was one of the stronger characters. Although this may be unpopular, I'd like to see harsher death penalties to counter act the huge number of high level players on the server.

While I agree that I'd prefer to see a lower average level on the server, I think what's happened is just progression in the setting. People will become stronger in the Underdark or they will die; and some people really earn their way to 8 or 9.

I don't like that more people are higher level, but I accept it, and I don't like the idea of "punishing" people for having reached a certain level, or for trying to reach a certain level.

In my opinion you are seeing the maturing of the server. As more players become more comfortable with the server, and you start to see more and more truly excellent characters survive to higher levels the level of the server goes up.

I don't mind seeing higher levels at all, so long as the appropriate RP accompanies said levels. Remember, the higher the levels, the more we expect of the player in involvement on the server.

I was the highest lvl charctor in the CDL, and I pretty much did squat except mope about me being poor as hell.

How is this relevant, Thomas? Please stop spamming the forums!

In my opinion the high levels are basicly the "Heroes" or "Villains" I'm fine with higher levels as long as we never include level 20.....level twenty is like....godlike. I mean a level 5 can kill a level nine with a few lucky rolls.

Harsher Death penalties punish the people who aren't good at game mechanics. They're already too harsh for some people. (Myself included.)

I agree, harsher death penalties gives the impression that you /have/ to stay under level five, which isn't the case at all! If people earn their levels then I don't see a problem.

Level 20? I think level 12 is pretty much the cap, and 10 is the highest I know of.

I quite like the average power/level on the server right now. I'd really love to see some amazingly heroic/awesome PC's that are worthy of levels beyond 10, even.

I'm all for that myself.

What irks me is seeing a level 10 PC with no "heroics" to his name. By level 10 a PC should have accumulated some kind of in-game prestige or made a name or a real impact.

The problem is, you can reach any level on EfU that is obtainable without doing any of that. You just need to complete quests, then you hit level 10 because you quested a lot and didn't do what the server is about--which is portraying an awesome character who can have impact on the world.

So then you're stuck with them at 10th. Hanging around, looking boring, and it makes you sad. Not that I've seen this happen much in EfU honestly; but its not people making it to level 10 or even 20 that should be viewed as a problem--the problem is how to better motivated the people who are at high levels to maintain consistently high goals and impact and how to guide or handle those who hit the highest levels but aren't doing what they ideally could be doing.

I would agree with what has been put up..

just a thought to add..

Given that many people start a character have the aim of one day having them as a 'high' (+7) Pc level, maybe think about what 'role' they can play by that time, when you create (nothing in much detail just an few ideas)?

I know that you can just let things develop, but having some vague idea of how things may work out can be helpful...

I did this when i created Kasin's back story and build and it makes RPing Kasin much more lodgical and keeps me playing him, though i very rarely mission with him now.

I seem to see many characters well Rp'd but then quickly fade from the server when they reach +7, because there was nowehere to take them.

Sounds good idea to me, May Nightwind, for example wasn't RP'd enough, and I kinda let her die (More subconsciously). While my current main character - Amywieng Evrilo, well, I *wanted* her to be in the War Band since beginning, and now I know she'd have always what to do. Even if she's lvl 15 (I made it way over), she could lead the War Band for cool quests. That way, not only I have what to do with her, but I also enjoy doing it, as well as arranging other players cool stuff :)

I must say that the most exciting XP I ever got was from RPing alone. (Speaking with some PC/NPC then suddenly w00t! 150 xp)

I don't mind a slowly increasing level/treasure level as the server matures. As we add more content, things will change over time.

Oroborous hit the nail on the head, IMO!
