An idea for a mini game at the Gambling Hall would be automated rat fights, say every 15/30 minutes, where you could place a bet on.
Automated Rat Fights
I whole-heartedly support this idea.
Bump
I would suggest that instead of automated it is only started when a PC askes a NPC Rat handler to run a fight, sort of like the card game in the back of the crone.
I support this too. There are a number of things I'd like to add to rat fights to make them more prominent.
Just an bit to add on this (as my Cleric would love more oppurtunities to gamble :) )...
Would this sort of thing work?
4-5 NPC who are 'professional' rat catchers/trainers... who each give a bit of info on their Rat.. (make the rats different colour so you can see your own)
You place you bet with the Booky NPC and all the rats enter the ring (CR could be a bit random to make sure the results change)..
And basically it is the last rat standing
The winning prize is based on how many people enter... tiny if on your own, but better if someone organised a 'betting night'... chance for PC to organise stuff..
My 2 pence anyway
Rat colors won't change, but all rat fights are one vs one. Rats can get individually named.
The rat catchers can tell you the origins of their rats, and can tell you about what kind of special training they have received. Those in the know about rats could determine some about the rats based on what kind of rat they were.
The format I would likely use is an 8 rat tournament. I'm trying to come up with a way to make it automated, but allow PC's to fill those 8 spots, and NPC's to fill remaining spots. This may take a bit, but I think this would be ideal.
That sounds great Thrawn
I'm going to call my rat Pikachu AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!!!
P.S Any chance of having some sort of sensor that will turn off the rat fights if no one is in the room? From a lag point of view
Wouldn't it be easier to need a PC to ask the head NPC to start it? Having the PC put their own rat in is an option in the conversation but not needed, so you can just watch if you want...

Actually, I can. I can put a list of banned names, where if you try to use one, it automatically calls your rat Fluffy.
It definately will need a PC to trigger it. The question is how much time to give after someone tries to trigger it. I want to give enough time for multiple people to enter rats. Since rat fighting takes longer than rat races, I worry about people starting it and locking others out.

But what about my new rogue/Fighter Ashley Ketchum? :(
But seriously, how long are you planning to make these fights last 1 minute? 5 minutes?
A single fight lasts until one rat can kill another. That is between 30 seconds and a minute. However, if it runs a 8 bracket tournament, that is 7 fights, with time in between, so you are looking at closer to 10-15 min I'm guessing for a full tournament to happen. It would suck if a bunch of people wanted to enter, and the first one locked the rest out.
