The Book of Judgement

[written in the sloppy penmanship of Iria Fen]

I have just talked with the Helmites in their shrine. The cleric there gave me some words of wisdom, and I decided to keep a journal of my thoughts, and also of the judgements I have metered out.

Remember the tenents of the faith, and the code, and the Law of Tyr.

"Do not let evil prosper." "Obey the law, and do what is right and good." "Defend the weak, and those who cannot defend themselves." "Protect the inocent." "Do not bear false witness, in word or in deed." "Strike down evil wherever you find it."

I have found a few more, and wanted to add them, cause I thought they were a good idea-- "Be humble. Do not seek after glory, except for the further glory of Tyr. Be not greedy over wealth or possesions, and share what you have with those that have less. Give honour to those that deserve it, and pity those who have none."

I will have to write down the amendments to the law, as the councilor asked me.

Helms should not be worn in Upper, at any tme, except by members of the Watch. Its bad enough that there are dangers outside, there is no need to hide your face in the city. Only theives, briggands, and murderers want to remain hidden behind masks.

The use of invisablity and hiding magics is reserved for Spellgaurd and the Watch while in upper. Again, why do we let people run around and stab each other, and then they dissapear and stuff? That never made any sense to me!

Necromantic magic is forbbiden in Upper. Anyone who is caught casting such spells will be imediatly exiled, and their license with Spellgaurd revoked. If that magic user enters the city again, they will be stoned.

All major crimes will be brought before an impartial judge. The judge may not be a member of the council, because they would have a conflict of insterest. Judges will be appointed by the council. Any judge found to be corrupt will be exiled or stoned, and any inquest into such will be done by the watch and spellgaurd. The council will have no say in what happens with a judge. They will appoint them, but the judges are answerable to the watch and spellgaurd. The watch and spellgaurd may remove any judge deemed unfit for their post, after due inquest hearings.

Thats all I got for now. I will have to think on this more...

I judged a Kobold who was trespassing in the Beacon. He came in and was asked to leave. He was asked three times to leave, but wouldn't leave. A footman was summoned, and the footman asked him to leave, but he wouldn't leave. The footman didn't do anything else except make fun of the kobold. So I asked one last time, and warned that he was breaking the law, and trespassing, and that if he stayed I would judge him under the law. He wouldn't leave, so I struck him.

The footman asked me to stop hitting the kobold, so I did. A guest of the Beacon struck the kobold, and the kobold was dazed. The footman took the opportunity to throw the kobold out.

I won't say it was the most glorius judgement. But I did what the law required. And justice was served.

*several pages are missing from the journal*

*there are some blank pages, and one in the middle that has the name Tizzano written over and over again*

*the last page of the Journal has some silver script written in it, in beautiful handwriting. This is unlike the iron-gaul ink and splotchy handwriting of all the other pages*

Tyr asked me to give one last judgement. I was to judge a friend, and decide his fate.

The friend took on a heavy burden, and committed a grave sin. But he did so in order to save others, and keep them from harm.

The judgement is final. This man comitted a sin, but he did so to protect the innocent. He did not let evil prosper.

The judgement is final. This man is absolved of all his sin. Tyr's mercy is given. So it is written and so it is done.

No greater love can a man show, than he give up all he has, even his own life, in order to save another.

May the light always shine on your path, and may all your journeys be short, save the journey of life. Tyr's blessings to you.
