To the Upper Council, from Leonardo Dalewind

Dear voted representatives, esteemed Ma'ams and Sirs, revered Lords and Ladies,

I write you in a matter that is very important to me. After my recent arrival to what seemed to be a sanctuary for all, me and my best friend, my familiar Vince, were met with extreme rudeness. Apparently, him being a familiar makes him a "potentially dangerous beast" according to your common law. Not, this is ridiculous. Familiars on the surface are as common as sheep on the fair Dalelands. They walk with their masters, side by side, and no guard would ever dare to think they have ill intent, for they are bound by their master's will. But here? Here, my dearest friend is termed a "beast" and a watchwoman had the gall to tell me to send him away. Now, being a diplomatic man, I wanted to reason with her, but instead she just said that either my best friend goes, or we both are to leave Sanctuary. This, council, strikes me as screaming injustice. Do your laws really dib familiars "potentially dangerous beasts"? Am I truly not allowed to walk with my dear little friend perched atop my shoulders? I must tell you this- he was all I had in the cold months of escape, when I scrambled through the Dark, eager to find hope. Is it truly thus that you have the right to either force my friend away or keep us both outside of your town?

Surely not! But if I am mistaken, if you really call familiars "potentially dangerous beasts" and if I am really not allowed to walk the streets with him then I wish to make a request: Grant him guest status under my supervision, and hold me responsible for whatever ill he surely won't cause. I may even go so far to leash him, as much as it hurts me.

But please, don't send him or me away from your fair town just because he looks vaguely like a tiny dragon!

Hopefully, Leonardo Dalewind, Rock Bottom Inn

Meldren reads a few lines then scans down to find out what sort of familiar it was, before penning a brief reply

A dragon?

Are you insane, sir? Keep that rubbish outside the city, you'll frighten the citizens!
